Thought for the Day: When core ritual practices undergo change, this indicates a major shift in worldview. A good example for today is how we conduct funerals. There was a traditional pattern which is now breaking down, even if slowly. The tradition reflected convictions: prayer for the dead, hope of eternal life, fear of judgement and so forth. The current “customisation” of funerals tells us that such a world of meaning no longer holds. What do people really think happens when we die? And yet, hope in the faithfulness of God, who raised Jesus is really at the centre of Christian faith from the very start. In any case, we’re all in for a surprise! Prayer Our loving God, you raised Jesus from the dead, the first fruits of all who have fallen asleep. Strengthen our hope in your abundant gift. Amen.

Why Sunday Matters – The Irish Catholic Bishops have published a Pastoral Letter on Why Sunday Matters – an invitation to reflect on Sunday Mass. It can be downloaded from, www.dioceseofkerry.ie There is also an accompanying video series entitled Sunday Mass – Digging Deeper,
also available on the diocesan website.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, many Catholics have faced challenges attending Mass due to health concerns. For those still unable to attend, the Church offers Communion to the sick and housebound. For those who can, it’s time to return and celebrate the Eucharist together. While virtual options have helped, they can’t replace the in-person experience of communal worship. Returning to Mass strengthens us as the Body of Christ, sharing in the sacred celebration.

Pope Leo XIV on X: Love conquers death. In love, God will gather us together with our loved ones. And, if we journey together in charity, our very lives become a prayer rising up to God, uniting us with the departed, drawing us closer to them as we await to meet them again in the joy of eternal life.
The Pope’s Intention for November: For the Prevention of Suicide: Let us pray that those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts might find the support, care and love they need in their community, and be open to the beauty of life.
