Pope Francis Tweet: We need to be cleansed of all the dust that has sullied our hearts. How? Prayer, fasting, works of mercy: this is the journey of Lent.

Thought for the day Official memorial celebrations are familiar to us, marking wars or national events. Often, these are coloured by a mixture of sadness and gratitude. The Christian memorial of the last week of Jesus’ life is entirely different. First of all, we tell the whole story again because he is risen from the dead. Secondly, this memorial is an effective one: as we do this in memory of him, the very same gifts of compassion, forgiveness, love and healing are offered again to all present, precisely because Jesus is risen from the dead. Our Christian memory is not a dead remembering but an effective bringing into the present of the great events that gave us new life in Christ. Prayer: Saving God, as we recall in word and gesture the great events of salvation, let us know your healing love once more. Amen.

Hopefully, many parishes who already make an annual pilgrimage will decide to move to this date and thus join with the diocese.

The Lough Derg 2023 Pilgrimage Season opens with One Day Retreats in May and the Three Day Pilgrimages from June. For info and booking contact info@loughderg.org, 071-9861518 or www.loughderg.org

Lent: Pray, Fast, Give

“Today Christ tells us it isn’t enough to distribute bread to those who haven’t got any. The essential thing is to work toward the creation of a more just world, in which there will no longer be a minority owning too much among such multitudes of hungry people. “[Dom Helder Camara]

Today Trócaire works in partnership with local and church organisations, supporting communities in over 20 developing countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East to bring about lasting change. Last year €7,505 was raised for Trócaire in this parish.

Fear is the deafening sound of war.

Love is the hand that quietens it

Fear is the voice that is never heard

Love is breaking the silence

Fear is the truth that is locked in the dark

Love is the courage that feeds it

Fear is the hunger that starves all hope

Love is the food that feeds it.

As long as pain exists, as long as suffering is here,

we will stay.

Until love conquers fear.
