The Holy Family is seen as the model for the human family, the religious community, and the Church itself. The celebration of the Incarnation has brought us to see God’s closeness. In the Holy Family we see the ordinariness of the life of Jesus, the simple acceptance by Mary and Joseph of the marvels of God. In the daily life of family and community we can touch the divine, we can come close to God. But we have to learn to live centred on God, with respect and love for each other. (Liturgical Calendar 2024)

Thought for the day: Today we have a chance to reflect on the mystery of our own families! It really is a bit of mystery, how we mostly come out okay from this most intense and formative of experiences. We receive so much that we really want to ponder and to treasure. We can also be burdened by attitudes and traits that we might well wish we were without. Yet, through it all, we are grateful. Family is our “first love” and never really loses its importance for us. Prayer:Bless all our families. We thank you for the very gift of life itself we have through our parents and for all the other many gifts we receive from our families. We have received so much: help us to continue to give. Help us too to know what to overlook and forget, to pay attention to what can be healed and for given, and through it all to continue to love.

Pope Francis on X:  Throw open the doors of your heart. Everyone knows how to do it. Everyone knows whether their door is closed or half-closed. I wish you a great Jubilee.

2025, A Jubilee Year in the Church

Pope Francis officially opened the Jubilee year, on Christmas Eve by opening a Holy Door in St Peter’s Basilica, Rome. It will be celebrated worldwide on this Sunday, 29th December, in every diocese worldwide, and thus at all our Masses that weekend. Pope Francis has chosen the Jubilee theme “Pilgrims of Hope”. We are asked to treat the year ahead as a year-long pilgrimage seeking together to become more aware that truly Jesus Christ Our Saviour is with us each day, – as our help, strength and guide. When we speak of ‘Hope’ we mean ‘Hope in Jesus Christ’, Hope in our God, Father, Son and Spirit.

Paidir do Lá Caille: Urnaí a múineadh i m’ leanbh dom féin, dúiseacht le dúthracht ar ghairm na n-éan, mo ghlúine a ligean fúm ag achairt chun Dé, chun an Úrmhic a bhí go túirseach ag sileadh as a ghéag’. ‘Rí na n-aingeal, na n-aspal, na bhfáidh is na gcliar, A Íosa a rugadh i d’ leanbh, id’ dhuine is í d’ Dhia, iarsma ‘chuirim ort, a Mhic Athar na ngrás atá fial, trócaire do m’ anam, is maith dom a ndearna riamh.

Prayer at the Crib

Loving Jesus, we remember your birthday Here at our crib, we thank God for Mary,

your mother, who cared for you;

We thank God for Joseph

who listened to his dreams and

protected you from King Herod;

We thank God for the angels who told the shepherds that you had been born;

we thank God for the shepherds

who came to celebrate your birthday;

We thank God for the three wise men

who trusted and told the world about you; We thank God for the animals in the stable who kept you warm.

Baby Jesus, we thank you for

coming as a baby.

Show us how to become

loving and caring in every way.

Help us to grow more and more

like you every day. Amen.
