Copies of our magazine Ár gCóineartú will be distributed at these liturgies. We thank the Teachers and Children as they prepare and dress our 3 Advent Jesse Trees or the Family Tree of Jesus at these Masses. Rejoice, rejoice, O Israel To you shall come Emmanuel (2) A Jesse Tree Blessing We ask God’s blessing on our Jesse tree, reminding us of our ancestors before Christ, the Son of David. We read in sacred scripture: Tá bachlóg ag eascar as bun chrann Ieise, agus gas ag teacht óna fhréamh; tá spiorad an Tiarna ag lonnú air., Íseáia 11:1-2. Let us pray: Heavenly Father, bless this tree, a reminder to us of your covenanted love, shown to your people, our ancestors, through the events of history in ancient times. May your son Christ, the shoot of Jesse, the true vine, invigorate us with his life and love, so that we may become his living branches in our world today. AMEN. Árdaigh do chroí, a Iosrael Chughat tiocfaidh Emmanuel (2) Careful attention is given to choosing one’s Sponsor for Confirmation 2010. We make our prayer, in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In this way one Gas Heater rather than 10 will be used. “Waste not, want not.” “The Story of the Origin of Jesus Christ … and The Jesse Tree” Matt. 1:1-17 It is timely how eminent US Bible scholar Fr. Raymond E. Brown challenges all Christians to have a serious look “at the list of Jesus’ ancestors” he examines the good, the bad and the ugly of “the total generations from Abraham to David (14 generations); and from David to the Babylonian exile (14 more) and finally from the exile to the Christ (14 more). Matthew’s genealogy is telling us that the story of Jesus Christ contains as many sinners as saints and is written with the crooked lines of liars and betrayers and the immoral, and not only with straight lines… A God who did not hesitate to use the scheming as well as the noble, the impure as well as the pure, men to whom the world hearkened and women upon whom the world frowned – this God continues to work through the same melange. If it was a challenge to recognize in the last part of Matthew’s genealogy that totally unknown people were part of the story of Jesus Christ, it may be a greater challenge to recognize that the unknown characters of today are an essential part of the sequence… He has not hesitated to entrust the sequence of the story to a hierarchically structured church, guaranteed with promises, but not free from its own share of the corrupt, the venal, the stupid, and the ineffective. Those “Christians” who proclaim that they believe in and love Jesus but cannot accept the church or the institution because it is far from perfect and the story and consequently are not willing to face the challenge of the sequence.” (A Coming Christ in Advent: The Liturgical Press, Minn., U.S.A.) CHRISTMAS LITURGIES CONFESSIONS will be held on Wednesday 23rd of December in our three Parish Churches as follows: Naomh Caitlín – 7:00pm Naomh Eoin Baiste – 7:00pm Naomh Muire – 7:30pm NB: Please note earlier time in Lios Póil agus Fionn Trá.
