Thought for the day: In Italian, Lent is quaresima or forty (days). In German, it is Fastenzeit or time for bodily restraint. Our English word comes from an older Anglo-Saxon word for spring, len(c)ten, whence our Lent. Italian tells us how long it will last (with its symbolic overtones). German tells us what to do in that time. But English tells us what is supposed to happen, that is, we are supposed to experience a springtime of faith, a time growth and new life.
Prayer: God of new life, bless us on our pilgrim way towards the great feast of Easter. Help us to know our need of your presence, breathe your Spirit into our reading of the Word, teach us to set aside whatever hinders our true discipleship so that we may come to life in abundance and know in our hearts the joy of the Gospel. Amen.
Pope Francis on X: Global events prevent many people from living joyfully and serenely. May our prayer rise with greater insistence to the Father, so that He may hear the voice of those who turn to Him trusting they will be heard.
Pope’s Intention for February: For the terminally ill. We pray that those with a terminal illness, and their families, receive the necessary physical and spiritual care and accompaniment.
Gluten Free hosts are available from the Priest at Communion time.
Priest on duty this Sunday:
Fr Eamon Mulvihill 066-7139145.
Parish Listening Evening: In his Pastoral Letter, Moving Forward in Hope”, Bishop Ray invites all parishioners to participate in a consultation process to shape the future of pastoral areas and parishes. A consultation gathering will be held in our parish on Tuesday February 27th at 7.30pm in Benner’s Hotel. As preparation for the gathering, you are invited to reflect on the following questions:
1. Without the presence of a priest to lead and coordinate, what aspects of parish life could we, the laity, take responsibility for and organise ourselves?
2. Where do we see scope for cooperation with neighbouring parishes in our pastoral area?
The Spring and Easter Dues Envelopes and Trócaire Boxes will be distributed to each house in the Parish over the next week. Buíochas to the Contact People who distribute them on behalf of the Parish. There will be a separate collection at the Easter Masses for the Easter Dues. Spare envelopes and Trócaire Boxes will be available at the back of the three Parish Churches. NB: If paying by cheque please make it payable to Teach na Sagart for the Dues and Dingle Parish for Trócaire.
A big Thank You from Trócaire. The €4,339 raised through the crib appeal in Dingle parish is very much appreciated and will go towards our humanitarian response in the Middle East. This includes medical supplies, food, water, hygiene and medical supplies, blankets, shelter. It is through the generosity of people like you, in parishes across the country, that we can continue to work together for a just world. With sincere gratitude from all at Trócaire.
