Thought for the day: A life without wonder would be very barren indeed. Babies are great at wonder and good communicators (in whatever field, such as nature or cosmology) have kept an almost childlike sense of discovery. Our faith, too, gets its energy from a combination of wonder, discovery and, betimes, perplexity. Some of the most inspiring passages in the Bible reflect this. For example, in Sirach 43, after an exhaustive review of the wonders of creation, the writer closes with the arresting words – We could say more but could never say enough; let the final word be: “He is the all.” (Sirach 43:27) Prayer: God of all creation, we stand before your handiwork in awe and gratitude. God of salvation, nothing can ever separate us from your love. God of our inner life, sustain our surprise!

Season of Creation 2022 continues until Oct 4th, Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. The Season of Creation has a special significance in the Catholic Church, particularly since Pope Francis established September 1st as an annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. The Season, which is marked throughout the Christian world, celebrates the joy of creation and encourage awareness-raising initiatives to protect the natural environment. Deir an Pápa Proinsias ina imlitir ‘Laudauto Si’: ‘Caithfear díriú ar cad a caithfear a dhéanamh seachas ar cad is féidir a dhéanamh. Tá gá le gníomhú dearfach uainn maidir leis an ngéarchéim aeráide agus tá an Eaglais sásta a páirt a dhéanamh go huile is go hiomlán’. Breis eolais ar www.trocaire.org.

A Prayer for our Earth All powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures. Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty. Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction. Amen (Laudauto Si, 246).
