Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

“There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God, the Father of all.”

The rite of Christian initiation presented here is designed for adults who, after hearing the mystery of Christ proclaimed, consciously and freely seek the living God and enter the way of faith and conversion as the Holy Spirit opens their hearts. By God’s help they will be strengthened spiritually during their preparation and at the proper time will receive the sacraments fruitfully. Details of Pastoral Area programme in next weekend’s Sunday Message.

Do This In Memory

Déanaigí  É Seo i gCuimhne

Over the past 6 years more than 150,000 Irish children and their families have used this programme to prepare for First Confession and Communion. On the threshold of New Year 2011 and the Feast of Our Lord’s Baptism we are all challenged and encouraged by Pope Benedict XVI’s words to us.

“In pastoral work it is always important to make Christian families part of the process of initiation. Receiving Baptism, Confirmation and First Holy Communion are key moments not only for the individuals receiving them but also for the entire family, which should be supported in its educational role by the various elements of the ecclesial community. Here I would emphasise the importance of First Holy Communion … Parish pastoral programmes should make the most of this highly significant moment.”

Do This in Memory complements the school-based work and takes place outside the classroom in the context of the parish Sunday Eucharist. It is then continued in the home through the use of activities and resources for both parents and children. This highlights the importance of the Sunday Eucharist as a celebration where we gather, are nourished by the Word and the Bread of Life, and are sent forth to live the Gospel. It also acknowledges the home as the most important and significant place where the faith of our children is nurtured, nourished and sustained. Every child is asked to prepare and keep a Sacred Space at home as part of our programme.

Our Journey of faith begins in Baptism and continues throughout the whole of our life, punctuated by the celebration of the key sacramental moments of Confirmation and First Eucharist. It is our hope that Do This in Memory clearly highlights this ongoing nature of catechesis, which is about nurturing and sustaining not only our children’s faith, but also the faith of the whole Christian community. The work of catechesis requires a commitment on behalf of parents, teachers, parish leaders and the whole faith community, which goes far beyond the day of the First Eucharist.

Our next joint liturgy will be on January 22nd/23rd.

Naomh Muire – Dé Satharn 7.30pm;

Naomh Eoin Baiste – Dé Domhnach 10.00am; Naomh Caitlín – Dé Domhnach 10.30am.

NB: An Fhíniúin/Grapevine was distributed at last liturgy, please study and discuss together at home in preparation for the 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time.

World Day for Migrants and Refugees

Sunday January 16th is the 97th World Day for Migrants and Refugees. The outreach to Immigrants is part of our welcoming as a faith community who gather on Sunday; to steep our minds and hearts in God’s Word; to celebrate the Eucharist as the Body of Christ; and to go forth and journey as that Body.
