Thought for the Day: In today’s Gospel, Jesus changes his mind! How is that possible? Twice in Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus limits his ministry to the “lost sheep of the house of Israel” (Matt 10:6; 15:24). In today’s story, however, a very feisty woman, clearly not a daughter of Abraham, with her urgency and her witty retort, brings Jesus to recognise the needs of those beyond the ethnic confines of the Jewish people. They are ordinary human beings too, just as much in need of the Good News of the Kingdom as anyone else. Prayer: We believe and we know, O God, that you love the human race, without making any distinction of persons or rank. Inspire us to see you in everyone we meet, for all are your children and you are the father of us all. (Fr Kieran O Mahony)

Season of Creation takes place from 1 September to 4 October, Christians around the world unite in this special season of prayer and action to care for our common home. It is a time to celebrate God as Creator and to reflect on our shared vocation to protect and cherish all of creation. This year’s theme, “Living Water,” is inspired by Ezekiel 47:9, 12 – a powerful biblical vision of hope and ecological renewal. Set against the backdrop of exile and loss, the prophet’s image of living water flowing from God’s sanctuary reveals God’s healing presence, bringing new life to rivers, land, biodiversity and communities, while calling us to renewed care for the whole Earth community.
As part of National Heritage Week, The Heritage Council is hosting an online webinar on Monday, 17 August, 7.30pm to showcase Havens for Nature: Supporting Biodiversity in Faith Grounds. The Annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Saturday, August 22nd, Feast Day of the Queenship of Mary.
