Roinn A – An Cruthú agus an Titim

1. 1.       Inseann an chéad siombail scéal an chruthaithe. Deir Leabhar Geineasas linn gur  chruthaigh Dia neamh agus talamh, agus go bhfaca sé go raibh sé go maith.
2. Chuir an nathair nimhe cathú ar Ádhamh agus Éabha, ár gcéad athair agus ár gcéad
   mháthair, an toradh coiscthe a ithe.
3. Cuireann an t-úll a bpeaca i gcuimhne dúínn.

 

Roinn B – na Patrarcaí

1. 1.       Roimh an Díle, ghlaoigh Dia ar Naoi a chlann agus na hainmhithe go léir a shábháil.  Thóg sé an áirc. Comhartha dhílseacht Dé an bogha síne.
2. B’é Ábrahám athair losác. Cuireann Dia triail ar Ábrahám agus tá seisean sásta a aon mhac a ofráil go humhal do Dhia. Cuireann an altóir, an t-adhmad agus an tine umhlaíocht Ábrahám i gcuimhne dúinn.

Roinn C – An Dlí agus na Fáithe

1. Is é Maois an leanbh tréigthe sa bhascaod a thogh Dia le pobal Dé a threorú ón sclábhaíocht isteach sa tír tairngire. Cé gur mharaigh Maois féín Éigipteach, ghéill sé do Dhia agus ceapadh é chun na deich n-aitheanta a thabhairt dúinn.
2. 2.              Bhí gairm ar leith ag na fáithe le bealach an Tiarna a réiteach. Le séideadh adharc reithe mar thrumpa ghlaodar an pobal le chéile le héisteacht le briathar Dé a bhí scríofa ar scrolla.

 

Roinn D – Teaghlach Dháibhí

1. Aoire ab ea Dáibhí, mac lese, a ghlaoigh Dia le bheith ína Rí. Bhí Dáibhí easumhal do Dhia mar pheacaigh sé go trom, ach dhein sí aithrí agus scríobh sé a lán de na sailm a nochtann a aithrí agus a ghrá do Dhia. Cuíreann an chruit in iúl gur ceoltóir é, an choróin agus an réalt gur rí é.
2. Eoin Baiste an fáidh mór deiridh. B’é a mhisean an bealach a réiteach d’Íosa tríd an bpobal a ghlaoch ar ais óna bpeacaí. Cuireann an sliogán i gcuimhne dúinn gur bhaist sé Íosa.
3. Rugadh Seosamh de theaghlach Dháibhí. Ba é siúinéir Nasarat é, duine fíréanta.
4. Bhí Muire luaite le Seosamh. Cuireann an lile agus na réaltaí in iúl a naofacht agus a misean le bheith ina máthair ag Emanúél, an té atá le teacht.

            Making a Good Confession

“Prepare the way of the Lord!” is the great invitation of Advent. We call to mind the call to repentance of John the Baptist who invited the people of his time to recognise the mercy of the Lord and repent of their sins to make themselves ready for the coming of the promised Messiah.  As we prepare for the celebration of Christ’s birth at Christmas, we too are invited to prepare to receive Him in our midst by celebrating the Lord’s forgiveness and mercy in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  This sacrament is given to us so that we might receive the forgiveness of sins which Christ promised us and to help us in our Christian lives as we strive to remove all the obstacles which interfere with our relationship with God and with our brothers and sisters in Christ.

1. Don’t worry

Perhaps it has been a while since your last confession or you find a particular sin especially difficult to confess.  Don’t worry! The Lord is delighted that you are coming to him to receive His mercy and forgiveness and priest who is hearing your confession is glad to help you and will do his best to help you confess well.  Anything you confess is totally confidential. 

2. Make an examination of conscience

Before you come to confession, make an examination of conscience.  Prayerfully ask the Lord to help you to remember your sins and to be truly sorry. You may want to use the 10 Commandments as a guide to help you remember your sins.  Reflect on your relationship with God, with your family, with your friends and neighbours and with material things.  Consider how you might do better in future and what concrete things you could do to grow in virtue and holiness.

3. Making your Confession

It helps to begin with a formula – Bless me Father for I have sinned – it is ______ since my last confession, and these are my sins:  

Confess the sins that you remember – it can help to begin with the most difficult sin to confess; it will be easier afterwards to mention the rest.  If you have difficulty, don’t be afraid to ask the priest for help.  He will help you to make a good confession. Place your trust in God – He is your merciful Father and wants to forgive you. 

You may conclude your confession by adding I am sorry for these and for all the sins of my past life.

The priest will give you a penance to complete after confession and may have some advice for you to help you be a better Christian. He will then invite you to make an act of contrition, such as the following:

O my God, I thank you for loving me, I am sorry for all my sins, for what I have done and what I have failed to do.  Help me to do your will in everything I do and say. I will try sincerely to walk in your light today and always.

4. Receiving the Lord’s Forgiveness

The priest will then pray the words of absolution, bless and encourage you – listen attentively and answer Amen!

5. After Confession

Perform your penance and give thanks to the Lord for His goodness and mercy.  Ask the Lord’s help to grow in faith, hope and love as you prepare for Christmas.
