Reflection
“Praise the Lord, Jerusalem;
He feeds you with the finest wheat”. (Psalm 147)

Let the wealthy and great
Roll in splendour and state
I envy them not, I declare it.
I eat my own lamb,
My chickens and ham,
I shear my own fleece and I wear it.
I have lawns, I have bowers,
I have fruit, I have flowers,
The lark is my morning alarmer.
So jolly boys now
Here’s God speed the plough,
Long life and success
to the Farmer.

“They go out, they go out full of tears,
Bearing seed for the sowing.
They come back, they come back with joyful shouts,
Bringing into the barns their harvested sheaves.” (Psalm 126)

(The poem is written by the late Patrick O’Connor, who farmed at Knocknahow, Dingle.)
PRAYER FOR FINE WEATHER
“All-powerful and ever-living God,
we find security in your care and love for us.
Give us the fine weather we pray for and need.
May the harvest be secured and the hard work
and efforts of so many of our people come to fruition. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ,
your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.”
An tAthair Bernard: Aifreann Buíochais agus Slán
Our Parish Pastoral Council invites you all to Séipéal Naomh Muire on Saturday September 8th next for a Farewell to Fr. Bernard with Aifreann at 8.00pm followed by Oíche Cheiliúradh in Pobalscoil Corca Dhuibhne where a presentation will be made. Envelopes will be distributed to homes in the Parish next few week for those of you who wish to be associated with our Parish Farewell to Fr. Bernard as he takes up his new appointment in St. John’s, Tralee. You may return the envelopes to the Presbytery or in the Sunday Collection Box.
Gentle Reminder to all attending St. Mary’s Church, you are welcome to park in the Presbytery Campus during Church Services so as to always avoid causing unnecessary obstruction near the main door of the Church.
Blessing Dingle Regatta 2012
Listen kindly to our prayers, O Lord, and as you once blessed the ark of Noah as it was borne over the flood, bless all the boats of Dingle Regatta and all who will sail in them with your holy right hand. Stretch our your hand to them, as you did to Peter when he walked upon the sea, and send your holy angel from heaven to keep the boats and all in them from every harm. Keep them safe, grant them a tranquil voyage and a safe harbour; and once their journey is done, bring them home content. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Rath Dé ar Dingle Regatta
A Thiarna, ofrálaim an rás seo duit.
Ofrálaim m’iarracht duit mar urnaí agus
déanfad mo dhícheall.
Is tábhachtaí m’iompar sa naomhóg inniu ná fuinneamh mo ghéag sa rás.
Má dheinim go maith cabhraigh liom
éirí in airde a sheachaint,
Mioscais má bhuaitear orainn agus fearg,
formad agus fíoch.
Ach, a Thiarna, táim ag tnúth leis an mbua.
Tabhair cúnamh dom, más ea, mo dhícheall a dhéanamh agus gur leor sin chun an chraobh a bhreith. AMEN

Séasúr Olympics agus Paralympics
An Laoch Dr. Pat O’Callaghan
To the heart all the athletic world is thrilled
By the glorious news from Fermoy
Of a new record made and the old record killed
By our wonderful “Duhallow Boy”.
He’s the theme of all tongues;
he’s the prince of athletes;
He’s the boast of our country and clan;
And all nations resound with the fame of his feats,
Our own Doctor Pat O’Callaghan.

Our own country can boast of supreme hammer men,
Men whose equals have never yet been,
Thomas Kiely, O’Mahoney, Walsh and McGrath
And that mighty man from Pallasgreen,
Willie Britton and Tobin and Mitchell and Co.,
Daly, Barry and Flanagan John,
But their best is eclipsed by that marvellous throw
Of good Doctor Pat O’Callaghan.

The Norwegian, the German, the Swede and the Jap
And the sons of our great Uncle Sam
Thought to sweep Irishmen off the athletic map
At Los Angeles and Amsterdam;
But they were only trotting behind great Tisdall,
As right over the hurdles he ran,
And they could not compare at the hammer at all
With brave Doctor O’Callaghan.

(Tribute to double Olympic Gold Medalist on breaking the World Record for the Hammer in Fermoy March 1937: The Bard of Knocknagree – Ned Buckley)
“Ar scáth a chéile maireann Pobal Dé”
