50th International Eucharistic Congress Communion with Christ and with one another

All large celebrations require a great deal of materials and preparation. The 50th International Eucharistic Congress in 2012 is no exception. There are many challenges involved and we want to ensure that the whole Church, both here in Ireland and further afield, will see the pastoral journey and the Congress, as opportunities to deepen our faith in the Eucharist. The third National collection for the Congress will take place on 25th/26th June. Your support, in these difficult economic circumstances is very much appreciated.

National Eucharistic Congress 2011 – Saturday 25th June at Knock: Begins with Morning Prayer at 11am, followed by workshops and the celebration of the Eucharist at 2.30pm.  For more info see www.iec2012.ie

Introducing the New Missal

From the 1st Sunday of Advent, November 27th 2011, there will be a New Missal for use at Mass throughout the English speaking world. It contains some changes to the people’s parts of the Mass.

Where do I find the changes in the people’s prayers at Mass?

The Mass missalette and the congregational card will have all the prayers and responses that are changing. These are also available on www.catholicbishops.ie and www.liturgy-ireland.ie, accompanied by brief video explanations. There are new translations of ‘I confess’, ‘Glory to God in the highest’, the Creeds, the acclamations in the Eucharistic Prayers, ‘Lord, I am not worthy’ and a number of other prayers and responses, which are very slightly changed; for example, in the Holy, Holy, we say ‘Lord God of hosts’ and in the response to ‘Pray, brothers and sisters’, the addition of one word, ‘holy’ before ‘Church’; where we responded ‘And also with you’, we now say ‘And with your spirit’.

 (to be continued).

Prayer of the Faithful

  1. For all entrusted with responsibility. May they be guided by the Spirit of love to act justly serve sincerely and walk humbly before God. Lord in your mercy … hear our prayer.
  2. For all who are on the margins of society. Through the ministry of the Church may they know the presence of the Triune God and be strengthened by the experience of belonging in community. Lord in your mercy … hear our prayer.
  3. For married people – that their faithful love for one another may be a visible sign of the love of God and an inspiration to their children and to their neighbours. Lord in your mercy … hear our prayer.
  4. For all fathers – that their loving gentleness and tender care may be a sign of God’s love….Lord in your mercy….hear our prayer
  5. For all priests as they celebrate their anniversaries of ordination, that they may experience joy and love in their vocation – we pray especially today for Bishop Bill and Fr. Gerard O’Connell as they celebrate 50 years of ordination, and Fr. Joe Tarrant as he celebrates 25 years of priesthood….Lord in your mercy….hear our prayer.
  6. For all who will attend the National Eucharistic Congress. May this pilgrimage lead to a new understanding of the Eucharist in the life of the Church in Ireland today as communion with Christ and with one another. Lord in your mercy … hear our prayer.
  7. For all who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith. May they be brought to their heavenly inheritance and share the life of the Trinity. Lord in your mercy … hear our prayer.

“Moladh go deo le Dia”

                          Domhnach na Tríonóide
In ainm an Athar a fuair an bua,
In ainm an Mhic a d’fualaing an Pháis.
A Spiorad Naoimh, bí dár neartú,
‘s a Mhaighdean ghlórmar, bí ‘nár dtriall.
(Ár bPaidreacha Dúchais Diarmuid Ó Laoghaire SJ)
Today, the liturgy celebrates the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity almost to underline that in the light of the Pascal Mystery is fully revealed the centre of the universe and of history: God himself, eternal and infinite Love. The word that summarizes all revelation is this: “God is love” (I Jn 4: 8, 16); and love is always a mystery, a reality that surpasses reason without contradicting it, and more than that, exalts its possibilities.Jesus revealed to us the mystery of God: he, the Son, made us know the Father who is in Heaven, and gave us the Holy Spirit, the Love of the Father and of the Son. Christian theology synthesizes the truth of God with this expression: only one substance in three persons. God is not solitude, but perfect communion. For this reason the human person, the image of God, realizes himself or herself in love, which is a sincere gift of self.
