The Proclamation of Christmas
“After the passage of countless centuries from the creation of the world, when in the beginning God created heaven and earth and formed man in his own image; and very many centuries from the time when after the flood the Almighty had set his bow in the clouds, a sign of the covenant and of peace; in the 21st cent from the migration of Abraham, our father in faith, from Ur of the Chaldees; in the 13th century from the departure of the people of Israel from Egypt under the leadership of Moses; in about the 1000th year from the anointing of David as king according to the prophecy of Daniel; in the 194th Olympiad; in the 752nd year from the foundation of the City of Rome; in the 42nd year of the rule of Caesar Octavian Augustus; while the whole world was at peace, Jesus Christ, eternal God and Son of the Eternal Father, desiring to consecrate the world by his most gracious coming, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit, and when 9 months had passed after his conception, is born as man in Bethlehem of Judah from the Virgin Mary: the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to the flesh.”
Guí an Phobail
1. Lord Jesus, you are the source and lover of life. Reawaken in us respect for every human life. Help us to see in each child the marvellous work of our Creator. Open our hearts to welcome every child as a unique and wonderful gift. A Thiarna, éist linn.
2. Guide the work of doctors, nurses and midwives. May the life of a mother and her baby in the womb be equally cherished and respected.
3. Help those who make our laws to uphold the uniqueness and sacredness of every human life, from the first moment of conception to natural death.
4. Give us wisdom and generosity to build a society that cares for all. Together with Mary, your Mother, in whose womb you took on our human nature, Help us to choose life in every decision we take.
We ask this in the joyful hope of eternal life with you, and in the communion of the Blessed Trinity. Amen.
Prayer for Emigrants
Bless all those who have left our country and now live in other lands. Give them a strong faith so that they will always put their trust in you and make you known by the example of their lives.
Console those who are lonely because they are separated from those they love. Help all missionaries who are working far from home to make your love known. Bless our people overseas who are sick or in prision.
We pray for foreigners living in our country that they may experience our hospitality.
Grant your eternal welcome to our emigrants who have died and to all the dead. Amen

Nollaig Shona Dhíbh; Feliz Navidad; Buon Natale; Wesołych Świąt; Priecīgus Ziemassvētkus.
Go mbeirimid beo ar an am seo arís.
Blessing of the Infant Child
Heavenly Father,
As we wonder and hesitate to believe, like the shepherds of Bethlehem, fill our hearts with joy, as we recognise in this helpless babe the revelation of your love, a new radiant vision of your glory.
Filled with wonder at the nearness of our God in Mary’s newborn child, may we now offer him our praise, worship and thanksgiving and give him the love and loyalty of our hearts. Amen.
Blessing of the Crib
We pray, Father, that you bless this crib.
May it inspire all who pass by with
the memory of your love.
May it brighten the hearts of our people and
lighten their burden.
You have already done so much for us;
may the memory of this open our hearts for your Son, and for all your children in need.
Bless us with the peace the angels announced.
Teach us to recognize your Son as the shepherds did.
May the light of your word guide us to him,
as the star guided the wise men;
make us generous with the gifts you have given us,
just as the wise men were generous.
Teach us to ponder all these things in our hearts,
as Mary did.
May we look forward with even greater joy to the day when Jesus will come again, so that the whole world may see the glory you have given him. He now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen
NB: For prayer at home sa you sprinkle Holy Water on your crib.
