The Assumption of Mary honours the fullness of blessedness that was her destiny, the glorification of her immaculate soul and virginal body that completely conformed her to the risen Christ. This is a celebration that offers to the Church and to all humanity an exemplar and a consoling message, teaching us the fulfilment of our highest hopes. Their own future glorification is happily in store for all those whom Christ has made his own brothers and sisters by taking on their flesh and blood.
Offertory Collection: €3,011.00. Míle buíochas.
Thought for the day: The famous reflection of Teilhard de Chardin suggests itself: The day will come when, after harnessing the ether, the winds, the tides, gravitation, we shall harness for God the energies of love. And, on that day, for the second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire. The uncertainties of today are evident, political, economic and environmental. What can we as people of faith contribute? Again in the words of Teilhard, “there is something wonderful afoot in the universe.” The eyes of faith see the deeper pattern. Prayer: God of the cosmos, you hold everything in being. God of love, you love the human race. God of our hearts, helps us to see your handiwork not only in the universe, but in the everyday events of our lives. Amen.

St John Henry Newman, one of the most influential English theologians of the 19th century, is to be made a Doctor of the Church by Pope Leo. Newman chose as his motto the phrase Cor ad cor loquitur – “Heart speaks to heart” – because he realised that his deepest encounters came from prayerful dialogue, heart to heart, with Christ in the Eucharist. Bishop of Killaloe Fintan Monahan said that he was “overjoyed” at the news. In Rome this week along with a group of Irish bishops, clergy and 600 young adult pilgrims from across the island, as part of the Jubilee global gathering of one million people to celebrate the 2025 Year of Hope, he said, “Saint John Henry Newman was steeped in the Scriptures and the writings of the early Church Fathers. Apart from his saintly qualities he became famous for his theological work on the development of doctrine, the importance of conscience, the purpose of education, the role of the laity and an analysis of faith and reason.
“Many regard him as the father the ideas of Vatican II and the Synodal process. He was certainly way ahead of his time. His devotional work, prayers, hymns and profound poetry helped to bring many people closer in their relationship with God.” In 2019 Bishop Monahan published A Perfect Peace, Newman, Saint for Our Time.
Prayer of Blessed Henry Newman:
O Lord, support us all day long,
until the shadows lengthen,
and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then in your mercy, grant us a safe lodging and a holy rest, and peace at last.

The Memorare Prayer
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
Hail Holy Queen
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To you do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve.
To you do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
your eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this exile
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb,
Jesus. O clement, O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary.
Hail Mary, full of grace.
Hail Mary, Full of grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners, now
and at the hour of our death, Amen.
