PARISH FINANCE COMMITTEE

Dear Parishioners,

As it is now possible for our parish to claim back tax paid on charitable donations, our Parish Finance Committee would be most grateful to the eligible households who received the Taxback forms during the week, if they could return them as soon as is convenient in the envelopes provided. If you have contributed €250 or more last year, (2010) and are a PAYE worker, we can claim back the tax paid on the amount you donated. All you have to do is complete and return the form which you will receive. Completing the form will cost you nothing, but will greatly benefit the parish as you saw in our published financial accounts for 2010, when we acknowledged the sum of €16,630.53 received as Tax Rebate from the Revenue for 2009.

Go méadaí Dia bhúr stór.

Acknowledgment

We acknowledge the receipt of the gift of a stole given in memory of Patricia Ann Saganey late of Weymouth and South Boston, MA, USA and the donation of vestments in memory of Maureen Manning late of Boston, MA, Killelane and Baile an Rannaig which will be blessed at the 8pm Vigil Mass this Saturday August 7th.

Novena for the Church in Ireland

Beginning this Sun August 7th we pray the rosary each day for 9 days to the Feast of the Assumption for:

  1. 1.      In atonement for the sins of some within the Church in Ireland and for all those hurt by them.
  2. 2.     For all of our priests and bishops, the guilty that they might find God’s mercy and the innocent that God might support them in this difficult time.
  3. 3.      For the healing and renewal of the Catholic Church in Ireland.

We also pray each day the Pope’s prayer for Ireland.

Enquiring about the Catholic Faith – RCIA

The parishes of the Corca Dhuibhne Pastoral Area – Annascaul, Baile an Fheirtéaraigh, Castlegregory and Dingle recently launched their joint RCIA programme. The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) is the programme of preparation for preparing interested non-baptised adults and non-Catholic Christians for full membership of the Catholic Church. The RCIA is not simply a course of instruction or teaching, but aims to be a process of initiation gradually introducing interested enquirers to the example and teaching of Jesus Christ and the life, teaching and practices of the Catholic Church. To assist in this process, a small group of people – Sheila O’Donnell, Geraldine O’Mahony, Barbara Prendergast and Fr Jim Sheehy – has been preparing to offer this programme in our Pastoral Area. Their responsibility will be to help and guide those interested on the journey of enquiry.

Because the parish itself has a role in supporting enquirers, welcoming new members and in giving witness to the Christian way of life, the establishment of the RCIA programme by the parishes of Corca Dhuibhne is a response to Christ’s words “Go out and spread the Good News”. This shows the conviction that the message of Christ is not a burden, but something life-giving that the parishes wish to share.  It is only by extending an invitation to “come and see” that the Christian community can be enriched and become more truly the “Body of Christ”. The RCIA is therefore an invitation – an invitation to those who might be interested in the Church and Christ’s Gospel to contact any of their local parish clergy for more information. It is also an invitation to you as Catholics to pray for the success of the programme and bring it to the attention of anyone you know who would be interested in finding out about the Catholic faith.  Rath Dé ar an obair.

Harvest Masses in Lúnasa.

These are the Harvestime days celebrating Reek and Crom Dubh Sunday, Puck Fair and Dingle Races leading to La ‘le Muire san Fhómhar – Assumption Day August 15th.

Dingle Parish Pastoral Council and Liturgy Group sincerely thank every organization and individual who generously and willingly prepare, support and participate in our annual liturgies of Fómhar na Farraige agus na Feirme.

Ní neart go cur le chéile.

Last Sunday’s Fishermens’ Mass was another wonderful experience of Aifreann Dé celebrated with active participation of local families long involved in our fishing industry. We anticipate similar generosity among all who are preparing next Sunday’s Fómhar na Feirme Eucharist which likewise will be transmitted and viewed worldwide through our Sruthlú Naomh Muire video streaming. Please pass on the word to all family and friends who reside outside our Parish.

Dingle Races 2010

‘Tis the first week in August, now autumn draws near, Through my years they are telling, of death I’ve no fear.

I’m heading back west, with old neighbours to mingle,

And to greet long lost friends at the Races of Dingle.

You’ll meet film stars, hucksters, purveyors of tall tales,

From Boston, Buncrana, from England and Wales,

With sporran and kilt a proud Scot came from Pringle

To lead in a winner at the Races of Dingle.

I was twelve years of age when I rode the grey mare

At Baile and tSagairt for a farmer from Clare;

Not a reck in my pocket to jangle or jingle,

Yet as happy as Larry at the Races of Dingle.

When Lindbergh looked down on that beautiful bay,

On his lone flight to Paris from Amerikay,

His heart missed a beat and his pulse went a-tingle

“I’ll be back soon,” said he “for the Races of Dingle”.

A celibate dolphin called Fungi swims nigh

(There’d be fierce consternation if he said goodbye)

Destined, I know, to be pure, chaste and single

For fear he’d miss out on the Races of Dingle.

So I’ll say in conclusion, “go mbeirimid beo”,

When my time comes I hope up above I will go.

The sound of the hooves beside ocean and shingle

Will be Heaven to me at the Races of Dingle.

A Prayer for The Jockeys

Lord God,

We thank you for continuing health of mind and body. We thank you also for good sporting competition and for success and failure when they come our way. Help us to compete to the fullness of our abilities but not to make winning at all costs the pinnacle of our ambition. If we achieve success may we accept it with gratitude. Comfort us with the realisation that it is often on the anvil of failure that true character is moulded and shaped.

We make our prayer through Christ our Lord. AMEN
