Machnamh
“Praise the Lord, Jerusalem;
He feeds you with the finest wheat”. (Psalm 147)

Let the wealthy and great
Roll in splendour and state
I envy them not, I declare it.
I eat my own lamb,
My chickens and ham,
I shear my own fleece and I wear it.
I have lawns, I have bowers,
I have fruit, I have flowers,
The lark is my morning alarmer.
So jolly boys now,
Here’s God speed the plough,
Long life and success to the Farmer.

“They go out, they go out full of tears,
Bearing seed for the sowing.
They come back, they come back with joyful shouts,
Bringing into the barns their harvested sheaves.” (Psalm 126)

Smaoineamh

Not everyone can appreciate the work and effort that we personally put into different aspects of our daily lives. There is no barometer in measuring the amount of love, care, dedication, sacrifice, courage and determination that many people give each day. There are plenty who will try and take the credit. In God’s eyes, the person who quietly works away without making a fuss is indeed a real winner. Perhaps there is someone in our lives too who is doing tremendous work but whom we may be taking very much for granted. It is easy to turn this one around but only if we decide to do something about it.
Pray for Bridie Horgan, Gurrane; Kevin Griffin, Monaree; John Horgan, Abbeyfeale and late of Ballyhorgan, Lixnaw. Suaimhneas síoraí dá n-anamacha.
