Thought for the day: In today’s Gospel, Jesus changes his mind! How is that possible? Twice in Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus limits his ministry to the “lost sheep of the house of Israel” (Matt 10:6; 15:24). In today’s story, however, a very feisty woman, clearly not a daughter of Abraham, with her urgency and her witty retort, brings Jesus to recognise the needs of those beyond the ethnic confines of the Jewish people. They are ordinary human beings too, just as much in need of the Good News of the Kingdom as anyone else. Prayer: We believe and we know, O God, that you love the human race, without making any distinction of persons or rank. Inspire us to see you in everyone we meet, for all are your children and you are the father of us all. Breis eolais: tarsus.ie.

Prayer for Vocations

Blessed Trinity, Father, Son and Spirit,

we worship and praise You.

Father, through the Holy Spirit you give to every Christian a unique calling as you provide and care for the needs of your people.

Hear our prayers for our needs as parish communities. Bless our efforts to strengthen lay ministry. In our diocese and in all our parishes give to each person the grace

to discern, follow and live their calling.

Call forth from among us vocations to the diocesan priesthood. Fill the hearts of our priests and deacons with renewed Peace and Joy. Father, in all things ‘Thy will be done’.

We entrust our prayers to you through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Season of Creation is marked throughout the Christian world from 1 September to 4 October (Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi) and celebrates the gift and beauty of God’s creation and encourages initiatives to protect our Common Home.

This year’s theme “Let Justice and Peace Flow” is inspired by the Prophet Amos.  “Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” (Amos 5: 24). As Christians we are called to join the river of justice and peace, to take up climate and ecological justice, and to speak out with and for communities most impacted by climate injustice and the loss of biodiversity.
