Thought for the Day: Our Gospel today omits, understandably, the brutal massacre of the innocents. While the story is indeed brutal, it is unfortunately not unrealistic. Its omission is a pity because the tragic side of life is underscored, in different ways, by both Matthew and Luke, in anticipation of the passion. They were not composing sweet scenes for Christmas cards! On the contrary, they were addressing the full human condition, in its mystery, its joys and its tragedies. It is precisely within the family that we encounter death, life, happiness and the sheer wonder of being at all. Today’s feast invites us to look unflinchingly at the whole picture, in all its complexity. Prayer: God, bless us all as members of our different families. As we thank you for the gift we are to each other, we ask your guidance and grace in all we do. Through Christ our Lord.
Amen. (Fr Kieran O’Mahony)
Pope’s Intention for January
For prayer with the Word of God. Let us pray that praying with the Word of God be nourishment for our lives and a source of hope in our communities, helping us to build a more fraternal and missionary Church.
Pope Leo XIV on X: Every vocation in the Church is born from a personal encounter with Christ… Before every commitment, before every good personal aspiration, before every service, there is the voice of the Master who calls us: “Come, follow me” (Mk 1:17).

Christmas Dues – Focal Buíochais
Fr Michael would like to thank all who have handed in their Christmas Dues Envelopes. These can still be handed in over the next while by placing them in the Building Fund Boxes at the back of the Churches or in the baskets at the offertory collection. Your support of your Parish Priest is greatly appreciated. NB: If paying by cheque, please make cheque payable to Teach na Sagart for Dues and Dingle Parish for Parish. Spare envelopes for Christmas Dues are available at the back of the Parish Churches. For those using the boxes of Parish Envelopes, please note that the box numbers are different for 2026. Míle buíochas for your great generosity and support throughout the year.
St Mary’s Church Refurbishment: Early in the new year we will begin work in St Mary’s Church, Dingle. The work will involve replacing the roof lights (glass) in the body of the Church and over the Altar. The Bell tower will be re-roofed, and about one eight of the roof copper including the copper guttering will be replaced. It is hoped that the work will stop the leaks that have become an increasing reality in recent years. During the work we will have access to part of the church at weekends only. The work is scheduled to be complete by mid-May 2026. There will not be any daily Mass in the Church on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Requiem Masses will take place in either St John the Baptist Church, Lispole or Séipéal Naomh Caitlín, Fionn Trá during these months. Mass on Friday evenings and Saturday and Sunday will be held in the Church. Only half of the Church will be available until mid March when it is hope that the inside work on the roof will be completed. We thank you for your patience during this time.
