The Refurbishment of St Mary’s Church now involves replacing the worn copper. We have been informed that the work will be completed by August 15th. Thank you for your patience during this time.

Thought for the Day: We can identify easily with the double expression “harassed and helpless”, a wide expression of frustration and naked need. There can indeed be a sense of aimlessness, “like sheep without a shepherd”, as we look for direction in life, values to live by and a sense of overall meaning and purpose. Dennis O’Driscoll captured it in his poem Missing God: Miss Him when the TV scientist explains the cosmos through equations, leaving our planet to revolve on its axis aimlessly, a wheel skidding in snow. The message of the kingdom is no less real, rooted in compassion, and relevant today as never before. In the pithy expression of Bishop David Jenkins: “There is God. He is as he is in Jesus. There is hope.” Prayer: God of the cosmos, you come close to use all in the compassion of Jesus. As we take to heart his proclamation of the kingdom, show us how we can be bearers of the good news to all around us. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.               (Fr Kieran O’Mahony)

Pope Leo XIV on X: Selflessness is like leaven that makes the human, ethical, and spiritual dimensions of society grow, and it is a distinctive element of the “City of God.” In a world constantly influenced by a logic of self-interest and profit, where the term “growth” is reduced to the economic-financial sense, it is important to think and live according to a more authentic mentality that leads to integral human development.

United Nations World Refugee Day, June 20th, honours refugees around the globe forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. The day celebrates their strength and courage.

A Prayer for Refugees

Abba Father, our beloved Father, look down with mercy on us and all refugees.

Remember your son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
had to leave his homeland and flee to Egypt,
when he was a baby, with his mother, Mary,
and foster father, Joseph.

Help us to be aware of the fears, anxiety, pain, sorrow, difficulties and uncertainty all refugees suffer, and to remember that we all belong to the same human family.

Holy Spirit, please give us compassion and courage to help them in any way we can.
Amen. Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.
St. Joseph, pray for us.
