“Watch and Pray”
Bliain an Chreidimh – Our Patron Saints
Laochra an Chreidimh No.43.
St Angela Merici was born in 1474 at Desenzano on the shore of Lake Garda, Italy. She became a tertiary of St. Francis at fifteen years of age. In a vision God revealed to her that she would establish a “company” to promote the welfare of souls. At Desenzano she established a school for the instruction of young girls and a second school at Brescia. She gathered around her twelve religious companions and founded the Ursulines at Brescia.
St Angela was of a reflective nature and possibly the first to grasp the changed role of women in the society transformed by the Renaissance. She envisaged that those who joined her would remain in the world but devote themselves to every type of corporal and spiritual work of mercy, with special emphasis on education.
However, her idea of education was very different from that of a convent school. The Saint preferred to send her followers to teach girls in their own families. Through this she hoped to effect an improvement in social conditions. For it was her belief that “ disorder in society is the result of disorder in the family”. Her idea of a religious order of women without distinctive habit and without solemn vows and enclosure was also in advance of her times – although her Order was obliged to adopt the canonical safeguards then required of all nuns.
In the year of Angela’s death, 1540, it was estimated that at least half the town of Brescia was Lutheran or Calvinist. However, the schools of the Ursulines did their share in strengthening and extending Catholicism and in safeguarding Italy from what is now termed “modern unbelief”. She was canonized in 1807 by Pope Pius VII.
I picked this saint because I admire her for what she did and because I like her name. (Clodagh – Scoil Eoin Baiste)

Paidir roimh Chomaoine
A Thiarna Íosa, tar chugam.
A Thiarna Íosa, tabhair dom do ghrá.
A Thiarna Íosa, tar chugam agus tabhair dom Tú féin.

A Íosa, a chara n bpáistí, tar chugam.
A Íosa, is tú mo Thiarna agus mo Dhia,
Moladh go deo leat, a Thiarna Íosa Chríost.

A Thiarna, ní fiú mé go dtiocfá faoi mo dhíon,
Ach abairse an focal agus leigheasfar m’anam.
Paidir tar éis Chomaoine
Fáilte romhat, a Íosa, céad míle fáilte romhat,
Fáilte romhat, a shlánaitheoir, céad míle fáilte romhat.

Táim réidh anois, a Íosa, chun mo ghrá a thaispeáint duit.
Táim réidh anois, a Íosa, chun mo ghrá a thaispeáint sa bhaile, ar scoil agus i ngach áit eile.

A Íosa mhilis, ní suíochán duit mo theanga, ní lóistín duit mo chroí,
Ach brón orm do bheannacht,
Is go bhfana sé agam choíche.

“Children Helping Children” Mission Appeal
Bishop Liam Ó Murchú and our Diocesan Mission Committee have decided to extend this appeal to all this year’s First Communicants. Children are encouraged to offer a donation towards the education and support of their peers in Africa just as our Confirmation candidates do every year. You are reminded that a donation of 20 cents can provide a good meal for 6 African children so we invite you to keep this act of charity and missionary outreach in mind.
We ask the Do This in Memory Parent Leaders to help collect and forward your cash gifts to the Kerry Diocesan Project Fund through our Dingle Parish Office.
