Mission Appeal in Kerry Diocese 2014
We welcome OLA Sr. Julie Doran, Cork to our parish next weekend October 4th/5th to promote Mission Awareness. The Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles was founded in 1876 and are dedicated to spreading the Good News through service and witness to their lives, particularly in Africa. Today the OLA Sisters work in 19 countries in the African continent, Europe and South America. The promotion of women and the care of the marginalised in society is a particular priority in their apostolate. Led by Christ’s message to “bring good news to the poor”, the Sisters strive to build a more just and caring world through education, healthcare, interreligious dialogue, care of the Earth and involvement in non violent action for justice.
OLA Sisters thank the people of the Irish Church for their contributions in so many ways. Today they invite you to continue that support by:
• Being more involved in the Church by continued prayer that the missionary spirit may never decline in the hearts of the Irish People.
• Praying for peace in our world and the safety of all Missionaries who work in war torn countries.
• Within your families encouraging young people to deepen their own Christian calling and consider the religious life.
• Continuing your very generous financial support by collecting an envelope as you leave the church and returning it next Sunday.
NB: A second collection will be taken up next weekend, after Communion, for this cause. You can put your donation in the envelopes provided. Bígí Fial.

“You ask what’s the Secret of Kerry
‘Tis often I wished that I knew…”
Since 1891 Kerry teams have been contesting and winning All-Ireland Finals in all grades of Gaelic sport. Last weekend in Croke Park our Pastoral Area of Corca Dhuibhne was once more successfully engaged in a sporting campaign to bring The Tom Markham Cup XII and Sam Maguire No. XXXVII home. We salute all the players, families and local Clubs, Schools and Colleges who made this possible.
(Minors) Cathal Ó Bambaire, Brian Ó Beaglaoí, Mark Ó Conchúir, Matthew Ó Flathartha, Conor Ó Geibheanaigh, Brian Ó Raoill, Rob Ó Sé, Tomás Ó Sé, Barry Ó Súilleabháin agus Tom Ó Súilleabháin.
(Seniors) Alan MacGearailt, Mikey Ó Geibheanaigh, Paul Ó Geibheanaigh agus Marc Ó Sé.
(Lucht Bainistíochta): Pádraig Ó Corcoran, Weeshie Ó Loingsigh, Eamon Mac Mhuiris, Diarmuid Ó Murchú agus Micheál Ó Sé.
“Tradition”
Thousands followed Dingle Fife and Drum Band through the streets of our town on Thursday night last as we welcomed home Laochra Sinsir agus Mionúirí na Ríochta. Bonfires and speeches hailed our victors a bheir Croabh na hÉireann 2014. Proudly borne too was The Hogan Cup won by our Pobal Scoil footballers last April.
St. Jarlath’s, Tuam hold the Hogan Cup record – each September their Senior Panel hold their first team meeting when the one word “Tradition” is written on the blackboard.
A cháirde Gaeil:
Lá ceiliúradh. Lá comóradh.
Lá cuimhne ár gcine.
Ólaimis sláinte na cuimhne!

To lasting, loyal memory
Of scattered children of the broken hearthstone
Their pulse memory beating faster on a September Sunday
Wherever green is worn

And not mere memory.
Celebration, too, of a harvest
Filling the seed-bag on youth’s shoulder
With hope
For a new, growing century
In sport, in unity, in peace.

Céad slán, Céad fáilte,
Buíochas mór le Dia.
(Fr. Leo Ó Morcháin)
