Thought for the day: Irony and sarcasm somewhat resemble each other, with some notable differences. Sarcasm, easily enough achieved, is often wounding. On the other hand, irony, using “cognitive dissonance”, prompts insight and triggers memories. There is a good example in today’s Gospel: “if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.” Will they really? By the time of writing, Jesus himself had already risen, and still conversion was as remote as ever. With all our convictions and doctrines, what is holding us back? Prayer: God of all life, you have given us the greatest assurance of your love in raising Jesus from death. Help us to live every day from your reassuring love.Amen. (Fr Kieran O’Mahony)

Pope Leo XIV on ‘X’: Let us pray together that the leaders of nations may be free from the temptation to use wealth against humanity, turning it into weapons that destroy peoples and monopolies that demean workers. Whoever serves God becomes free from wealth, but whoever serves wealth remains its slave! Whoever seeks justice transforms wealth into the common good; whoever seeks domination transforms the common good into the prey of their own greed.

Why Sunday Matters – The Irish Catholic Bishops have published a Pastoral Letter on Why Sunday Matters – an invitation to reflect on Sunday Mass. It is available in parishes, or can be downloaded from the diocesan website, www.dioceseofkerry.ie. There is also an accompanying video series entitled Sunday Mass – Digging Deeper, also available on the diocesan website.
