Lá ‘Le Muire an Daingin – Lady Day Dingle

On Tuesday 8th September we celebrate our Parish Pattern Day.

Rejoicing in the birthday of Mary, mother of our Lord you are warmly invited to spend special time in Marian prayer and devotion this Tuesday by attending Mass at 10am or 7.30pm, praying the Angelus, Family Rosary, reflecting on the enclosed or lighting a candle at our Lady of Good Counsel shrine in the porch of St. Mary’s. Our ancestors choose Mary as our patron saint when they invited Bishop Daniel Moriarty to lay the foundation stone on St. Patrick’s Day 1862. Every year the people of Dingle and the people of Ballyheigue celebrate their Pattern Day.

“Mairg nach molann Muire”

“Let us celebrate the birth of the Virgin Mary. Let us adore her Son, Christ the Lord. When the sacred virgin was born, then the world was filled with light; blessed and holy is the stock which bore such blessed Mary so that she may intercede for us with the Lord Jesus Christ. Your birth O Virgin Mother of God, announced joy to the whole world for from you has risen the Sun of Justice. He released us from the ancient curse and made us blessed.”      (Liturgy of the Hours)

“Father of mercy, give your people help and strength from heaven. The birth of the Virgin Mary’s Son was the dawn of our salvation. May this celebration of her birthday bring us closed to lasting peace.”              (Collect Prayers of Feast)

Is maith an bhean Muire mhór

Is maith an bhean Muire mhór,

Máthair Árd-Rí an slógh síor;

siad a grásta is gnáth lán,

bean do chuir fál fó gach tír.

Bean í dá gclaonann ceart,

bean is mó neart is brí,

bean is boige fá ór dearg,

bean is gcoisctear fearg an Rí.

Bean do bheir radharc do dhall,

bean is treise thall ar neamh,

bean do thóg mo naimhde díom,

bean is díon dom as gach cath. (Traidisiúnta)

Regina Caeli

“Queen of Heaven rejoice! He whom you were found worthy to carry in your womb has risen as He said. Pray for us to God; rejoice and be glad O Virgin Mary, Alleluia. O God who gave joy to the world through the Resurrection of Your son, we ask You that through His Mother we may obtain the happiness of eternal life.        (12th Century Latin Hymn)

As we rejoice in the birth of the Virgin Mary in her motherhood of our Saviour and of ourselves, it seems only proper to honour her own parents, St. Joachim and St. Anne.

Father, You gave Saints Joachim and Anne the privilege of being the parents of Mary, the Mother of Your incarnate Son. May their prayers help us to attain the salvation You have promised to Your people.                                         (Collect Prayer of Feast)
