Parish Envelope Scheme and Calendar 2012

In the next few days every household will receive a Féilire Eaglasta 2012 and a box of envelopes for your weekly offertory contribution. Also included is an envelope for your Christmas Dues contribution.

The offertory collection funds all running costs and maintenance in our Parish, including insurance, staffing and Diocesan Levy.

Tax can also be claimed back by the Parish for each PAYE taxpayer who contributes over €250 per year. We invite every household to participate in this scheme and invite new parishioners to register by contacting the Parish Office on 9151208.

A full account of both income and expenditure will be published in the New Year. We thank all our collectors, committee members, counting teams and teangmhálaithe / contact people who serve tirelessly in this essential Parish work.

Spare envelopes for Christmas Dues which help make up the clergy’s salaries will be available at the back of the three Parish Churches.

Spare 2012 calendars will also be available at the back of the Church for visitors or should you wish to send one to family members living elsewhere.

Go méadaí Dia bhúr stór.

Ár gCóineartú

All Confirmation candidates together with their parents / guardians are asked to take the front seats at one of this weekend’s three Parish Confirmation Programme Masses.  We thank the Teachers and Children as they prepare and dress our 3 Advent Jesse Trees or the Family Tree of Jesus at these Masses.  These trees were used during our 2010 Parish Mission.

Rejoice, rejoice, O Israel

To you shall come Emmanuel (2)

A Jesse Tree Blessing

We ask God’s blessing on our Jesse tree, reminding us of our ancestors before Christ, the Son of David.

We read in sacred scripture:

Tá bachlóg ag eascar as bun chrann Ieise,

agus gas ag teacht óna fhréamh; tá spiorad

an Tiarna ag lonnú air. Íseáia 11:1-2.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, bless this tree, a reminder to us of your covenanted love, shown to your people, our ancestors, through the events of history in ancient times. May your son Christ, the shoot of Jesse, the true vine, invigorate us with his life and love, so that we may become his living branches in our world today. AMEN.

Árdaigh do chroí, a Iosrael

Chughat tiocfaidh Emmanuel (2)

Our next Confirmation Liturgy will take place on the 21st and 22nd of January 2012.

Watch out for Scéalta Átha Cliath on TG4 on this Thursday night Dec 15th at 10pm.  It will tell the story of Matt Talbot, his struggle with alcoholism and his conversion.

Our next joint liturgy will be on next weekend, December 17th and 18th. Please bring your candles and place them in the Sacred Space in church. All families are asked to occupy the front seats please.

“The Story of the Origin of Jesus Christ … and The Jesse Tree”   See Matt. 1:1-17

It is timely how eminent US Bible scholar Fr. Raymond E. Brown challenges all Christians to have a serious look “at the list of Jesus’ ancestors” he examines the good, the bad and the ugly of “the total generations from Abraham to David (14 generations); and from David to the Babylonian exile (14 more) and finally from the exile to the Christ (14 more):

“Matthew’s genealogy is telling us that the story of Jesus Christ contains as many sinners as saints and is written with the crooked lines of liars and betrayers and the immoral, and not only with straight lines… A God who did not hesitate to use the scheming as well as the noble, the impure as well as the pure, men to whom the world hearkened and women upon whom the world frowned – this God continues to work through the same melange. If it was a challenge to recognize in the last part of Matthew’s genealogy that totally unknown people were part of the story of Jesus Christ, it may be a greater challenge to recognize that the unknown characters of today are an essential part of the sequence… He has not hesitated to entrust the sequence of the story to a hierarchically structured church, guaranteed with promises, but not free from its own share of the corrupt, the venal, the stupid, and the ineffective. Those “Christians” who proclaim that they believe in and love Jesus but cannot accept the Church or the institution because it is far from perfect and sometimes a scandal have not understood the beginning of the story and consequently are not willing to face the challenge of the sequence.”
