Dingle Christmas Craft Fair and Farmers Market Sun 12^th Dec 12 noon – 5pm. The Craft Fair will be in Benner’s Hotel and The Farmers Market in Holyground. The idea is to promote shopping locally for Christmas. Many shops from the town will have promotions and Santa will be in Dingle OceanWorld 1 and 3pm. At 5pm there will be a Ceremony of Light led by the Dingle Fife and Drum and the parade will begin at the back of O’Flaherty’s Pub in the new SuperValu carpark (please gather there at 4.30pm) and will go around the town and will finish in Holyground where the Christmas Lights and Christmas Tree will be officially lit. Bígí Linn!

Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Wednesday the 8^th of December is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a holy day of obligation – an all night Vigil will be held in the Nuns’ Chapel of St. Mary’s, commencing after the Vigil Mass on the 7th. Fáilte roimh cách.

Advent Pastoral Letter from Bishop Bill Murphy

The letter entitled Together in Hope is a summary of the findings from the listening exercise conducted during the year throughout the diocese. Four main themes emerged at these gatherings: Clerical Child Sexual Abuse; Church Structures; Understandings of Church and Faith; and Young People. A copy of the letter is available as Gaeilge agus as Béarla at the back of the three Parish churches and on the diocesan website on www.dioceseofkerry.ie

Prayers of the Faithful:

In these challenging times we pray for our political leaders, that God will provide them with wisdom and courage in their task of guiding our nation.

Lord, hear us.

As we celebrate Advent, a time when we are reminded of God’s love and concern for each one of us, we pray that all who are faced with challenges will find hope in the knowledge that God is with us.   Lord, hear us.

We pray for all those whose lives have been destroyed as a result of clerical child sexual abuse.   Lord, hear us.

We pray for the church that it might be a place marked by the values of God’s kingdom, a place of honesty, justice, openness, and compassion.

Lord, hear us.

Dingle Parish Pastoral Council reviewed our Misean an Phobail 2010 and reiterate our sincere gratitude to our visiting Mission team and all of you who helped both plan and then participate in our Mission. For your information 240 children were personally invited by way of the beautiful Madonna and Child (Harry Clarke) An Díseart postcard for the Blessing Ceremony. Some 65 groups were contacted by letter in advance to take part in our Closing Ceremony and among them were 13 sporting organisations (across 10 disciplines) of whom only 3 did not take part on that night.

The P.P.C. has decided to present the Crib offerings from Naomh Muire, Naomh Caitlín agus Naomh Eoin Baiste to local foreign missionaries Fr. Tommy Lynch in India and his brother Fr. Danny Lynch in Paraguay. Both work with the world’s poorest in their Divine Word Missions.

Holy Day of Obligation

We celebrate Mary, who from the first instant of her existence in the womb of her mother Anne was ‘by a singular grace and privilege of Almighty God, and in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, Saviour of the human race, preserved free from all stain of original sin’. We give praise to God, font of grace and source of Mary’s holiness, as we honour her today.

Genesis 3:9-15, 20.

This selection from Genesis carries the reassurance that in spite of sin the human race is not to be written off. It is the story of disobedience and of sin but this is not the whole story. Fear and shame are the signs of sin and so Adam and Eve hide from God. Yet, despite their sin, they are still chosen by God and ‘Eve’ is called ‘mother of all the living’.

Ephesians 1:3-6, 11-12

From the beginning of time we were chosen by God. St. Paul tells us that before the world was made, God chose us in Christ. We are reminded that by virtue of our baptism we are chosen and set free from sin. The chosen of God belong to him. All of this is part of God’s great plan of salvation – a plan, in which Mary plays a pivotal role.

Luke 1:26-38

The focus of the reading is on the conception of Jesus, not Mary. This is all part of God’s planning and preparation. Mary, in her conversation with the angel (God’s messenger), is questioning, yet, she remains open and accepting compared to Eve in the Genesis story who is blaming others and defensive. Mary’s words are of willingness to allow God act in and through her. As a result, her child is holy, the work of God and the new creation. She becomes the ‘new Eve’. Mary is truly blessed – Luke who is writing after the death, resurrection and glorification of Christ, sees in Mary the agent and vehicle of God’s new creation – she will bring forth “he who is God’s promised one, who will save his people from their sins”.
