Crib Donations For BETHLEHEM and AFRICA

Your donations given through our three Parish Cribs will go directly to aid needy people in Africa and the Middle East. Local lay missionary Liz Uí hUiginn will embark on her Volunteer Missionary Movement African Project as teacher in a Catholic Secondary School. Monies donated will help fund the provision of necessary materials which otherwise would not be available or affordable for the students. The VMM is a lay Missionary movement founded in 1969 working with people regardless of religion or politics. The aim of the VMM is to share lives, faith, resources and skills in order to promote respect and equality.

The Order of Malta run the Holy Family Hospital which is 800m from the birthplace of Jesus in Bethlehem. 22,000 women and children are cared for annually through the outpatient consultations and outreach services. Holy Family Hospital is a referral hospital for four refugee camps operated by the UN in the West Bank. As no grant aid comes from Israeli or Palestinian authorities to support this work they depend on volunteer staff.

We invite your personal and community support and solidarity for these projects.

Bígí fial flaithiúil arís.

Pilgrimage to Northumbria

May 28th – June 4th 2010

The Díseart is hoping to run a pilgrimage to the North East of England to follow the footsteps of the Irish Monks from Iona who in 635 AD initiated a mission to the Kingdom of Northumbria and in the space of 30 years established the Church as a centre for missionary outreach to the rest of England and to the Continent of Europe.

The story of the Irish mission to Northumbria forms a unique chapter in the history of the Church in England as in less than a hundred years the foundations set and the seeds sown flourished into what became known as “The Golden Age of Northumbria”.

The wonderful heritage going back to and developing from those years is very much alive and tangible, with many of the Church centres associated with that time still active as places of worship today.

More details about the pilgrimage to follow. In the meantime if anybody is interested please contact Fr. Jim Sheehy at jimsheehy@diseart.ie or at the Díseart: 066-9152476.

(1) Adeste Fideles

Adeste Fideles laeti triumphantes,

Veníte, veníte in Bethlehem.

Natum vidéte, Regem Angelorum:

Veníte adoremus, (3) Dóminum.

Deum de Deo, lumen de lúmine,

gestant puellae viscera

Deum verum, genitum non factum:

Veníte adoremus, (3) Dóminum.

(2) The First Nowell

Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell,

Born is the King of Israel!

The star drew nigh to the north-west,

o’er Bethlehem it took its rest,

and there it did both stop and stay

right over the place where Jesus lay.

Then entered then those wisemen three

full reverently upon their knee,

and offered there in his presence,

their gold and myrrh and frankincense.

(3) Céad míle fáilte

Céad míle fáilte romhat, a Íosa, a Íosa,

céad míle fáilte romhat, a Íosa.

Céad míle fáilte romhat, a Shlánaitheoir,

céad míle, míle fáilte romhat, ‘Íosa, a Íosa.

Glóir agus moladh duit, a Íosa, a Íosa,

Glóir agus moladh duit, a Íosa.

Glóir agus moladh duit, a Shlánaitheoir,

Glóir, moladh agus buíochas duit, ‘Íosa, a Íosa.

An Teaghlagh Naofa

Mo Dhia, mo sholas, mo bheatha, mo ghrá,

mo bhrí, mo lúcháir, mo lón fós.

Tabhair dom meabhrú oíche lá

ortsa, a Dhia gach sólais.

Méadaigh mo ghrá, m’osna agus mo bhrón

agus oscail mo bhéal chun paidir a rá,

agus tabhair dom smaoineamh go cinnte gnáth

ar Íosa, Muire agus Iósaef.

(Ár bPaidreacha Dúchais – Diarmuid Ó Laoighaire, S.J.)
