St Bernadette was born at Lourdes, France. Her parents were very poor and she herself was in poor health. One Thursday, February 11, 1858, when she was sent with her younger sister and a friend to gather firewood, a very beautiful Lady appeared to her above a rose bush in a grotto called Massabielle. The lovely Lady was dressed in blue and white. She smiled at Bernadette and then made the sign of the cross with a rosary of ivory and gold. Bernadette fell on her knees, took out her own rosary and began to pray the rosary. The beautiful Lady was God’s Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary.
She appeared to Bernadette seventeen other times and spoke with her. She told Bernadette that she should pray for sinners, do penance and have a chapel built there in her honour. Many people did not believe Bernadette when she spoke of her vision. She had to suffer much. But one day Our Lady told Bernadette to dig in the mud. As she did, a spring of water began to flow. The next day it continued to grow larger and larger. Many miracles happened when people began to use this water. Her feast day is April 16th.
I would like to take the name Bernadette because I’ve heard about all the comfort people have got from visiting Lourdes. I’ve heard about all the illnesses that have been cured, and the people who have got great comfort from visiting where our Lady appeared to her. (Niamh – Scoil Eoin Baiste)
Support For Catholic Schools – Gov. Survey
“There is little real demand for a widespread handover of Catholic Schools according to the Government’s own research. Parents in 306 Catholic schools have now been surveyed. The outcome is a recommendation for change in 28 or 9pc of these schools. (Irish Catholic April 4th)
NB: In one Kerry Parish 72 of 2,500 parents seek change.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
We would like to offer our congratulations to Andrina McLeod, who was received into full membership of the Catholic Church and of the Sacred Heart Parish, Annascaul at the Easter Vigil celebration of the Lord’s Resurrection on Saturday evening last.
As we welcome Andrina we offer her the assurance of our prayers and support on her ongoing journey of faith within the Catholic Church, while at the same time valuing the gifts that Andrina is so ready and happy to witness to for the enrichment of the Church and her local community.
The RCIA group will continue to meet and would welcome anybody who feels the need or the call to enquire into or learn more about the Christian faith and the Catholic Church. On reading this if you know of anybody who you feel may be interested suggest to them to contact, or ever better introduce them to your local Parish Priest who will be very happy to meet them and introduce them to the RCIA group representing the parishes of the Corca Dhuibhne Pastoral Area.

A Thiarna mhaith ró-ard na n-uile chumhacht!
Leatsa gach moladh is glóir, gach onóir is gach beannú.
Duit féin amháin, a Ró-ard, is cóir á dtabhairt
Is ní fiú duine ar bith tú a lua.

Moladh leat, a Thiarna liom, le lánlíon do dhúl,
Go háirithe a Shoilse, an Bráthair Grian,
Óir is é an lá é, agus is tríd a shoilsíonn tú sinn.

Moladh leat, a Thiarna liom, ón tSiúr Ré is na réaltaí;
Thuas sa spéir a chum tú iad go gléineach, iad ina seoda, iad spéiriúil.

Moladh leat, a Thiarna liom, ón mBráthair Gaoth,
Is ón aer, is ó scamallacht is ó shoineann is ó gach síon,
Os tríothusan dod chréatúir a thugann tú scamhard.

Moladh leat, a Thiarna liom, ón tSiúr Uisce
Atá fíorfhóinteach is uiríseal, is atá ina seoid agus geanmnaí.

Molaigí is beannaígí mo Thiarnasa,
Gabhaigí bhur mbuíochas-sa
Is déanaigí fónamh dó le móruirísle.
