Thought for the day: The great scenes in the Bible, precisely because of their greatness and indeed uniqueness, can be difficult to access personally. For the Baptism of Jesus, there are at least two potential approaches. Firstly, we could go back in our minds to a life-changing turning point in our own lives, so that we can speak of before and after. Secondly, we could also turn to our own experience when we felt deeply the affirmation of our identity and worth as “the beloved” of someone. In the case of Jesus, these are combined: his identity and life are one, something we would like to be able say about ourselves too. Prayer: Abba, Father, let us hear again today your words of affirmation to Jesus and in Jesus to us all. As your beloved sons and daughters, draw us more closely into your own life of love.

Parish Masses: You are welcome to attend either the weekday Mass or weekend Mass as the Sunday obligation is still lifted. We give thanks to God that we can physically gather as a faith community once again. Protective measures include:
(i) You are asked to wear a face mask.
(ii) Come in good time.
(iii) We ask that you observe social distancing.
(iv) Communion can only be received in the hand at this time.
(v) hand sanitisation is advised.
(vii) You can place your offering for the offertory collection in the building fund boxes at the back of the churches as the passing of baskets is not permitted.

Pope Francis – Tweet: Faced with our frailties, the Lord does not withdraw. He does not remain in his blessed eternity and in his infinite light, rather he draws close, he makes himself incarnate, he descends into the darkness. This is God’s work: to come among us.
The Baptism of The Lord. Jesus is anointed with the Spirit and his power. He is proclaimed Messiah. He now goes about doing good, working the signs that make him known as the Servant of God. He is the one who brings good news to the poor and tells of salvation. Through our Baptism each one to us is ordered to the life of Christ – Priest, Prophet and King.
Prayer/Reflection: There are many vocations in the Church. But the most important of these is the one we received at baptism, namely, the vocation to be a disciple of Jesus. Lord, give us joy in the profession of our faith, and may we live the faith in such a way that the world will know that we are your disciples. (Flor McCarthy SDB)
