Thought for the Day: Jesus himself practised open tablefellowship, to express God’s unconditional love and acceptance. Before he died, he spoke words over the bread and wine, words which disclosed the meaning of his death and resurrection. When St Paul wrote to the Corinthians about the Lord’s Supper, he had to remind them that the sacrament is meant to be a communion among all who celebrate it and to have a practical affect in our lives. As Benedict XVI wrote: A Eucharist which does not pass over into the concrete practice of love is essentially fragmented (God is Love).

Prayer: Lord, as we gather around your table, help us to recognise you in the breaking of the bread and in each other. May we live the communion we receive by practicing both service and reconciliation. Amen.          (Fr Kieran O’Mahony)

Pope Leo XIV on X: The Gospel is much more than a book: it is Christ Himself, the Good News for humanity that is confused, deceived, and disappointed by many evils. He satisfies our thirst for justice and truth, and He instills in us the courage to persevere in doing good and to place ourselves personally at the service of our neighbor.

The Pope’s Intention for June:  For the values of sports. Let us pray that sports be an instrument of peace, encounter, and dialogue among cultures and nations, and that they promote values such as respect, solidarity, and personal growth.

Dioceasan Collection for Peter’s Pence will be taken up next weekend, June 6th/7th as a second collection after Communion.

Friday June 12th is the Feast of The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Pope Leo XIV’s prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Lord, I come to your tender heart today,

to you who have words that set my heart ablaze, to you who pour out compassion on the little ones and the poor, on those who suffer, and on all human miseries.

I desire to know you more, to contemplate you in the Gospel, to be with you and learn from you and from the charity with which you allowed yourself to be touched by all forms of poverty.

You showed us the Father’s love by loving us without measure with your divine and human heart. Grant all your children the grace of encountering you.

Change, shape, and transform our plans,

so that we seek only you in every circumstance: in prayer, in work, in encounters, and in our daily routine.

From this encounter, send us out on mission,

a mission of compassion for the world

in which you are the source from which all consolation flows. Amen.

We pray for all who are sitting exams these days, may the Lord be with each one of them, may He keep them calm and focused and may the Holy Spirit guide and help them.

Prayer: Send down, O God, upon your people the flame of your Holy Spirit, and fill with the abundance of your sevenfold gift the Church you brought forth from your son’s pierced side. May your life-giving Spirit lend fire to our words and strength to our witness. Send us forth to the nations of the world to proclaim with boldness your wondrous work of raising Christ to your right hand. Amen
