Parish Envelope Scheme and Calendar 2013
Féilire Eaglasta 2013 and a boxes of envelopes have been distributed for your weekly offertory contribution, as well as an envelope for your Christmas Dues.
Tax can be claimed back by the Parish for each PAYE taxpayer who contributes over €250 per year. We invite every household to participate in this scheme and invite new parishioners to register by contacting the Parish Office on 9151208. A full account of both income and expenditure will be published in the New Year.
Spare envelopes for Christmas Dues, which help make up the Parish Priest’s salary, and 2013 calendars are available at the back of the three Parish Churches.

Sister Stanislaus Kennedy, born Treasa Kennedy, in Rinn Buí, Lios Póil in our Parish, is nationally known as Sister Stan and is a member of the Sisters of Charity. She helped establish Kilkenny Social Services in the 1970’s. In the 1970’s, she co-founded the National Federation of Youth Clubs, CARE, and the School of Education in Kilkenny. She is best known for having co-founded, in 1985, the homelessness charity Focus Ireland and is Life President of the organisation. In 2001, she also set up The Immigrant Council of Ireland (ICI) as a response to the social needs of new immigrants living in Ireland. In 1997 she was appointed to the Council of State by President Mary McAleese and served until 2004. She has published books about spirituality and other topics including Now is the time: A Bundle of Blessings: Gardening the Soul; and Seasons of the Day and most recently Stillness through my prayers.
We salute Sr. Stan as a Faith heroine whose leadership in her social justice crusades is prophetic in the Gospel sense. The manner in which she shares her spirituality via print, radio and T.V. helps many in their Faith struggles and Christian journey.
The martyr St. Stanislaus, the saintly but tragic bishop of Kraków, is patron of Poland. He is remembered with Saints Thomas More (June 22) and Thomas Becket (December 29) for vigorous opposition to the evils of an unjust government.
John the Baptist, Thomas Becket, Thomas More and Stanislaus are a few of the prophets who dared to denounce corruption in high places. They follow in the footsteps of Jesus himself, who pointed out the moral corruption in the political and religious leadership of his day.
Mother of God January 1st.
There has been opposition to Mary in every age. The heresies in her regard that were corrected through Councils or Dogmas were in fact errors concerning our redemption in Christ more than heresies against Mary. If we don’t have Mary’s place in the plan of Redemption right, then our concept of who Christ is and what he did is inadequate or false. Irish traditional devotion to Mary has suffered neither from excess nor defect. This is greatly due to the solid teaching of St. Patrick who came among us the year after the great Council of Ephesus, 431AD when the divine Motherhood of Mary was proclaimed. That Council proclaimed (against the Nestorian heresy) that Mary was the Mother of God. Therefore for Christ to be called her Son was to proclaim that he was both human and divine. It is of interest to note that the title ‘Mac Mhuire’ or Mary’s Son, was the title given to him even more than ‘Chríost’ in Irish literature. And since that motherhood was extended to all humanity at the foot of the cross they regarded her as their spiritual Mother and kinswoman. They often used the ploy, in appealing to Christ for mercy or pardon, to claim relationship with him ‘on the mother’s side’. She was powerful, not on her own but by reason of her Son’s position. To deny her the rightful place eventually leads to the denial of the true identity of her Son. “Mairg nach molann Máthair Dé” – “To be pitied is the one who does not praise the Mother of God”

Getting Married – Essential Checklist
1. Contact the local clergy where you reside permanently before booking. Permission must be received from the bride’s Parish Clergy to celebrate her wedding outside her Parish.
2. Book the priest who has agreed to marry you. Check that he is officially registered as a Solemniser by the Irish State.
3. Each person must complete the Pre-Nuptial Enquiry Form with the priest of the Parish where he/she resides, the following are required:-
(i) A long form Baptismal Certificate issued within six months of the proposed date of the marriage;
(ii) Proof of Confirmation, (if not recorded on the Baptismal Certificate);
(iii) Proof of Freedom to Marry, either of the following:-
(a) Letter of Freedom from parishes where he/she has lived for 6 months or more;
(b) Swear an affidavit before a Commissioner of Oaths stating he/she has never been married religiously or civilly in any jurisdiction.
(iv) If previously married or non-catholic, permissions and dispensations are applied for through your own Catholic clergy and Diocese.
4. Attend an Approved Pre-Marriage Preparation Course only (best completed 6 months before your wedding). Accord: 066-7120194; or website: www.accord.ie (Contact Parish office for information).
5. In the event of couples residing overseas all documentation is processed via their own Roman Catholic Bishop to the Bishop of Kerry.
6. The couple must give the State at least 3 full months notice and must then meet the civil registrar in Ireland by appointment before the wedding. Contact: 090-6632945/7/8/9 or www.groireland.ie
7a. The registrar will issue the couple with the Marriage Registration Form (MRF) which must be presented at least two days before the wedding to Dingle Parish office.
b. The couple must return the signed Registration Form (MRF) to any civil registrar in Ireland within one calendar month.
