Bliain an Chreidimh – Our Patron Saints
Laochra an Chreidimh No.22 & 23.
St. Helena was born in the year 246/250 and died in 330. She was an empress and mother of Emperor Constantine the Great. She is traditionally credited with finding the relics of the cross. In 326-28 Ellen undertook a trip to the Holy Places in Palestine. She was responsible for building / decorating 2 churches, the Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem – the birthplace of Jesus – and the Church on the Mountain of Olives – the place of Jesus’s ascension. Her son, Emperor Constantine, renamed Drepanum her birthplace and it is known as Helenopolis. St. Ellen is the patron Saint of archaeologists and converts.
I picked this name because my greatgrandmother’s name was Ellen. (Aibhín – Bunscoil an Chlochair)

St. Isabelle of France was born in March 1225 and died on the 23rd of February 1270, aged 44 years.
She is buried in the Abbey of Longchamps, France. She was the younger sister of St. Louis and older sister of Charles 1 of Sicily. Her mother was Blanche of Castille and her father was Louis VIII of France. In 1256 she founded the Franciscan Abbey of Longchamp in the part of the Forest of Rouvray now called Bois de Bologne West Paris.
She was patron Saint of sick people.
I picked this saint because I like the name. It is in our family and she was a great leader.
(Sophie – Bunscoil an Chlochair)

Trócaire invites you to be in solidarity with this community this Lent; praying for them and supporting them, in whatever way you can.
Where is the Church going today?
That is the theme of the Open Forum at the Legion of Mary 40+ celebrations being held on Feb 23rd, 2.30 p.m. in the Church of the Resurrection, Killarney.
LENT 2013
Ash Wednesday this year is on Wednesday next February 13th. Masses with Imposition of Ashes will be celebrated as follows:
Dingle – N. Muire 10am & 7.30pm
Dingle Community Hospital – 11am.
Ash Wednesday is a day of Fast and Abstinence. Those aged between eighteen and sixty are called upon to fast on Ash Wednesday. Traditionally, this is done by taking only one small main meal and two snacks during the day. All aged 14 and over are bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Lent is a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
“Fasting is the soul of prayer, mercy is the lifeblood of fasting. If we have not all three together, we have nothing” says St. Peter Chrysologus.
Lá Fhéile Vailintín, Pátrún an Ghrá
14ú Feabhra
Cérbh é Naomh Vailintín? Sagart agus mairtíreach a cuireadh chun báis sa Róimh breis is 1,700 bliain ó shin.
Cén fáth gur cuireadh chun báis é? Mar thug sé a bheannacht do lánúineacha a bhí 1 ngrá! Ní raibh fonn ar na fir óga san am sin troid in arm an Impire Rómhánaigh, Claudius. Chuir Claudius an milleán ar na mná agus d’ordaigh sé gach pósadh agus gealltanas pósta a chur ar ceal agus bhí an bás i ndán d’aon duine a chuirfeadh ina choinne. Níor aontaigh Vailintín leis sin. Cuireadh i bpríosún é agus dícheannadh é sa Róimh ar an 14ú Feabhra 269/270 A.D.

Twenty-First World Day of The Sick
February 11th 2013, the liturgical memorial of Our Lady of the Sick. This day represents for the sick, for health car workers, for the faithful and for all people of goodwill “a privileged time of prayer, of sharing, of offering one’s sufferings for the good of the Church, and a call for all to recognize in the features of their suffering brothers and sisters the Holy Face of Christ, who, by suffering, dying and rising has brought about the salvation of mankind”.
(Pope Benedict XVI)
