Introducing the New Missal

From the 1st Sunday of Advent, November 27th 2011, there will be a New Missal for use at Mass throughout the English speaking world. It contains some changes to the people’s parts of the Mass.

What differences can we expect in November 2011? From 27 November, the First Sunday of Advent, congregations and priests will use the texts of the new edition of the Roman Missal for the celebration of Mass. While the structure, actions and pattern of the Mass will remain the same and the readings will be unchanged, the texts of recited prayers will sound different to our ears. Over time, as the new style of language become familiar to us, it is very much hoped that we will come to appreciate both the richness and depth of our prayer at Mass.

Financial Accounts 2010

Last weekend our Parish Finance Committee were delighted to present our Statement of Accounts for 2010. We particularly remind all donors who have contributed €250 or more and who are on PAYE to take part in our Tax Rebate scheme once more. With that in view, we will be contacting all donors during the coming weeks. You will note that this scheme gained €16,630.53 last year towards Parish funds thanks to the generosity of all concerned.

Buíochas ó chroí to all who contributed to the support of our Parish and Clergy. We are particularly indebted to all our voluntary collectors and teams of counters.

Ar Scáth a Chéile a Maireann Pobal Dé.

SHARE THE GOOD NEWS – R.C.I.A

In the earliest centuries of the Church’s existence, adults were initiated into membership of the Church after extended periods of enquiry and growth. Today, the ancient, and now revitalised, Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), restored, revised and adapted to local traditions worldwide, as requested by the Second Vatican Council, provides us with the framework for adult Christian Initiation. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults ‘is designed for adults who after hearing the mystery of Jesus Christ proclaimed, consciously and freely seek to enter the way of faith and conversion as the Holy Spirit opens their hearts’. It outlines the process by which an adult, newly converted to belief in Jesus Christ, is brought, after a journey of instruction and formation in the Christian life, to an explicit profession of faith and to celebration of the sacraments of initiation, Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist, preferably at the Easter Vigil.

The 4 Stages: 1. The period for hearing the first preaching of the Gospel; 2. Instruction and formation; 3. Lenten preparation; 4. The period marked by the new experience of sacraments and community.

The RCIA for Ireland today, invites local Christian communities to see themselves, once more, as missionary communities, listening to the needs of today’s people, and reaching out simply and humbly to proclaim Christ by the way they live their lives. The Christian community must be prepared, as well, to accompany those who enrol. The Christian community must also be ready to be a place of welcome for all those who are seeking to become more fully integrated into a living, praying, serving, loving community of faith. Adults and young people who have been baptised, confirmed and who have received the Eucharist, need to know that they belong within and are supported in faith by their parish community.

NB: Next weekend we will launch the proposed R.C.I.A. programme for the Corca Dhuibhne Pastoral Area outlining our invitation, details of our programme, and the entrusted team members who will lead it.
