Advent

Welcome to the Third Sunday of Advent, also know as Gaudete Sunday. ‘Gaudete’ means to rejoice, and in the midst of our preparation for Christmas we are reminded of the joy that the birth of the Christ Child brings. That joy is symbolised in the lighting of the pink candle on our Advent Wreath today.

Múin na hAidbhinte

Is beannaithe an nóiméad a rugadh Mac na hÓighe i meán oíche i mBeithil i lár an gheimhridh ghairbh. Deonaigh, a Íosa, trí bhrí agus onóir do Mháthair rónafa, ár saol, ár sláinte agus ár neart a chaitheamh i d’ sheirbhís bheannaithe, tríd an Slánaitheoir naofa agus a Mháthair Bheannaithe ag treisúint go glóir na bhflaitheas. A Naíonáin uasail bheannaithe, déan trócaire orainn.

(Ár bPaidreacha Dúchais: Diarmuid Ó Laoghaire, S.J.)

Hail and Blessed be the hour and moment

in which the Son of God

was born of the most pure Virgin Mary,

at midnight in Bethlehem in piercing cold.

In that hour vouchsafe, O my God,

to hear my prayer, and grant my desires,

through the merits of Our Saviour Jesus Christ,

And His Blessed Mother. Amen

All hail, most loving most holy, most amiable Infant Jesus, King of our souls! Blessed be the hour in which Thy Holy Mother will give Thee to us as our ransom. O most beautiful, give us grace to receive Thee worthily on the Feast of Thy Nativity and grant us the true spirit of that festival.

(Prayers from the Franciscan Tradition)

Advent: a time of hope

It is said that while there is life there is hope.

This has an even deeper meaning in reverse:

While there is hope there is life.

Hope is strength.

Hope sheds light into despairing hearts.

It inspires the will to live.

It is the doctor’s most powerful ally.

It is a shield against defeat and failure.

It revives ideals and renews dreams.

As long as there is hope, no situation is impossible.

Advent summons us to wait in joyful hope

For the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

In the final analysis, he is hope.

(Flor McCarthy, SDB)

Críost Ár nDóchas

Advent Pastoral Letter from Bishop Bill Murphy entitled ‘Together in Hope’ and the Irish version ‘I gcomhluadar a chéile le dóchas’ are available at the back of the three Churches. Please take home a copy to read.

Shop Local – Buy Irish

As our own community launches its seasonal festive programme this Sunday with Dingle’s Fife and Drum Band leading a colourful Parade of Light we do well to reflect on how we can all support home industry. Budget week impels us to focus on the challenge and responsibility to do our level best to support our own businesses which provide employment for our people.

Ar scáth a chéile maireann Pobal Dé.

Comhghairdeas ó chroí do scoláirí agus múinteoirí an dúthaigh ársa seo a bheir an craobh le déanaí. Bhuaigh daltaí Scoil Iognáid Rís comórtas “Léargas” lena scannán i dtaobh turas oilithrigh ar an Camino idir an bhaile seo agus Santiago de Compostella.

Bhí an t-ádh le Scoil Eirc, Baile na nGall chomh maith nuair a dhein siad taighde ar De Brún Iasc Teo. agus bhuadar craobh na hÉireann lena saothar. Léiríodar scéal agus stair an ghnó seo ón bhunús sa bhliain 1984 go dtí an lá atá inniu ann.

B’é “Peacing Europe Together” an saothar ealaíonta is fearr ó Aisling Ní Chonchúir, Pobal Scoil Chorca Dhuibhne le haghaidh “My EU Life” comórtas eagraithe le I.T. Trá Lí.

Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sé.
