Prayer for Exam Students
Lord, pour out your Spirit of Wisdom on these students:
Help them to remain calm,
To attend carefully to the questions asked,
To think clearly, to remember accurately,
And to express themselves well.
Grant, that they may reflect the best of the work they have done
And the best of the teaching they have received.
Accept their best efforts in these examinations and in the great test of life on earth.
May your love be upon them, O Lord,
As they place all their trust in you.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN
Introducing the New Missal
From the 1st Sunday of Advent, November 27th 2011, there will be a New Missal for use at Mass throughout the English speaking world. It contains some changes to the people’s parts of the Mass.
Is the Catholic Church in Ireland alone in introducing this new Missal?
The Catholic Church in Ireland, along with Churches throughout the English-speaking world, is working towards introducing the new edition of the Roman Missal at this time. This new edition is the English translation of the Latin Missal that was issued by Pope John Paul II in 2002. Since 2002 the Church in its many languages has engaged in the work of translating this Latin text through study, reflection and consultation. This work in English-speaking countries, the new Missal will come into use during autumn 2011.
What differences can we expect at Mass from September 2011?
From September, congregations will begin to pray the new translations of the people’s prayers at Mass. These new texts will be on missalettes and on specially produced ‘congregational cards’ and will assist us in becoming more familiar with the new edition. In some places people will, by then, already be familiar with this congregational card through using it as weekday Mass or at parish meetings. (to be continued)
50th International Eucharistic Congress Communion with Christ and with one another
All large celebrations require a great deal of materials and preparation. The 50th International Eucharistic Congress in 2012 is no exception. There are many challenges involved and we want to ensure that the whole Church, both here in Ireland and further afield, will see the pastoral journey and the Congress, as opportunities to deepen our faith in the Eucharist. The third National collection for the Congress will take place on 25th/26th June. Your support, in these difficult economic circumstances is very much appreciated.
National Eucharistic Congress 2011 – Saturday 25th June at Knock: Begins with Morning Prayer at 11am, followed by workshops and the celebration of the Eucharist at 2.30pm. For more info see www.iec2012.ie
Pope Benedict’s Message to Parents
Dear parents, commit yourselves always to teach your children to pray, and pray with them; draw them close to the Sacraments, especially to the Eucharist, as we celebrate the 600th anniversary of the Eucharistic miracle of Ludbreg; and introduce them to the life of the Church; in the intimacy of the home do not be afraid to read the sacred Scriptures, illuminating family life with the light of faith and praising God as Father. Be like a little Upper Room, like that of Mary and the disciples, in which to live unity, communion and prayer!
By the grace of God, many Christian families today are acquiring an ever deeper awareness of their missionary vocation, and are devoting themselves seriously to bearing witness to Christ the Lord. Blessed John Paul II once said: “An authentic family, founded on marriage, is in itself ‘good news’ for the world.” And he added: “In our time the families that collaborate actively in evangelization are ever more numerous […] the hour of the family has arrived in the Church, which is also the hour of the missionary family” (Angelus, 21 October 2001).
From Pope Benedict’s Homily in Zagreb on Sunday 5th June
Dhá Thoradh Dhéag an Spiorad Naoimh
Toil Dé go ndéanaimid,
greann Dé go dtuillimid,
ar Pháis Chríost go machnaímid,
go ndéanaimid amhantar ár gcolla,
go smachtaímid srian lenár dteangain,
go gcluinimid ceol na naomh agus na n-aingeal,
go ndéanaimid foighne Naomh Iosaef,
agus aithrí Naomh Agaistín
agus deoracha Mháire Mhandailíon.
Fuasclóir naofa na cine daonna
go dtuga sé an grásta sin dúinn
agus cabhair chuige.

Prayer of the Faithful
- That all who have been baptised may recognize the Spirit’s presence active in their lives.
Lord, hear us.
- 2. That the glory of God may be seen by an increase in justice and peace among all peoples. Lord, hear us.
- 3. That the Holy Spirit may renew our lives….we remember especially those who feel their lives have been dried out by disappointment. Lord, hear us.
- For all who are sick or in need of healing, that they will experience the gifts of the Spirit out pouring into their lives. Lord, hear us.
- For our journey towards the International Eucharistic Congress next year, that we may come to a greater awareness of the nourishment the Eucharist gives to our lives. Lord, hear us.
- 6. For all who have died, that the promises revealed to us by the Lord’s Passion, Death and Resurrection, maybe theirs. Lord, hear us.
