Machnamh / Reflection

10 things that Pope Francis called upon

Vatican employees to do for the New Year.

6. “Look after your work, doing it with enthusiasm, humility, competence, passion and with a spirit that knows how to thank the Lord.”

7. “Be careful of envy, lust, hatred and negative feelings that devour our interior peace and transform us into destroyed and destructive people.”

8. “Watch out for anger that can lead to vengeance; for laziness that leads to existential euthanasia; for pointing the finger at others, which leads to pride; and for complaining continually, which leads to desperation.”

9. “Take care of brothers and sisters who are weaker … the elderly, the sick, the hungry, the homeless and strangers, because we will be judged on this.”

10. “Making sure your Christmas is about Jesus and not about shopping.”

Christmas Crib Appeal
This year your Crib donations will go to the Order of Malta Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem and to Arlington Lodge, Tralee, Kerry’s only temporary supported homeless facility. Your support for these 2 very worthy causes would be greatly appreciated. Received to date: €1,915.

Smaoineamh
From a spiritual point of view, baptism is the greatest thing that can happen to us. To be baptised is to be christened, that is, to be made like Christ. But this doesn’t happen automatically as a result of being baptised. One has to learn what it means to be a Christian, and to grow into it. This is the task of a lifetime. Towards the end of his life a saint was asked if he was a Christian, and he replied, ‘not yet’.
To live one’s baptism is to live as a disciple of Jesus.
