Bliain an Chreidimh – Our Patron Saints Laochra an Chreidimh No.59 & 60.
St. Elizabeth of Hungary and Brendan the Navigator, Patron Saints of Dingle Hospital. The beautiful state of the art Oratory at West Kerry Community Hospital is a sight to behold –“something beautiful for God”. The acclaimed ecclesiastical artist and designer Fergus Costello was commissioned to create the altar, chair, ambo and tabernacle taking into account the liturgical guidelines issued by the Second Vatican Council. Costello, who works in wood in the main, has designed furnishings which elevate the mind to reflect the Divine Presence. He presents the Tree of Life, the Breaking of Bread and Word together with Patron St. Brendan the Navigator under full sail crossing the sea of crosses ag Fógairt an Dea-Scéal.
Hospital Chaplain Tomás Ó Luanaigh S.P. celebrates Mass each Wednesday at 11am and administers the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick monthly. Residents who cannot attend are blessed by the broadcast of Mass and Rosary by means of CCTV to every ward, a wonderful asset. Each Monday all are invited to spend one hour before the Blessed Sacrament (10.30am – 11.30am) thanks to Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist who also bring communion to all residents each Sunday. The annual Station Mass for immediate neighbours is hosted in this special House of Prayer.
“Is Beannaithe Teach Dé.”
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (The RCIA)
After the summer break we are hoping, early in October, to resume the RCIA meetings. The meetings will be held in the Díseart 7.00pm to 8.30pm on Monday evenings and will be open to anybody, not brought up in the Catholic faith but interested in learning more about it and about what it means to become a full member of the Catholic Church.
Initially the meetings will be more relaxed and informal. Later they will consist of a brief presentation on the subject or topic of the evening given by a member of the RCIA team, which will be followed by time for discussion and sharing; then there will be a short period quiet reflection and sharing on a passage of Sacred Scripture and will finish with a brief prayer service. At the end there will be time for light refreshments and a for a chat.
If you are interested, or if you know somebody who may be interested in joining the group please get in touch with the Parish Priest in your local parish or area who will be very happy to answer any queries you may have and will put you in touch with a member of the RCIA team. (Fr. Jim Sheehy on behalf of the Chorca Dhuibhne RCIA team).
