St. Bridget did a lot of amazing things in her life. She did not want to marry. As she was growing up her love for God grew deep. When she was young she decided to open a convent with only six young nuns so others could join. Her feast day is February 1st.
(Georgina – Bunscoil an Chlochair)
Saint Blaise: The Saint I have chosen is Saint Blaise. I picked Saint Blaise as my Confirmation name because he blesses throats and I have a problem with my throat and he is the Saint of animals and I love animals. Saint Blaise was a physician and Bishop of Sebaste in historical Armenia. He was martyred by being beaten and beheaded. He is patron Saint of many things including animals, vets, throats, builders and choking. On his the feast day which is February 3rd there is a special blessing of the throats.

Weekend Workshop – Myers-Briggs
A weekend workshop, on the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator, which has, as its objective, spiritual and personal growth through developing greater self- knowledge, is being run at the Diseart on Friday 7th of February from 8.00pm to 9.30pm and on Saturday 8th February 10.00am to 4.00pm.
We had a very successful weekend at the end of September but as the numbers attending were restricted to 12 people I promised others who were interested that I would run another weekend after Christmas.
It is a method of self-assessment and is non-intrusive. It is based on the research and teachings of the renowned psychologist Carl Jung and is used extensively by major business and professional groups, including Church groups on staff development programmes.
During my years at Ushaw College it was used, very successfully, in Pastoral and Spiritual Direction programmes having growth in the spiritual life through greater self-knowledge and self-awareness as its objective. If you think that you would like to attend please email me: jimsheehy@diseart.ie or ring me at: 086-2625498. Because of the work involved in preparing and presenting the weekend I can only accommodate 12 participants. (Fr. Jim Sheehy)
Bríd – Pátrún agus Muire na nGael
“Anois teacht an earraigh, beidh ‘n lá ‘dul chun síneadh, Is tar éis na Féil’ Bhríde ardóidh mé mo sheol.” (Raiftearaí – an File)
Beannú agus Dáileadh na gCros
“Go raibh beannacht an Athar, an Mhic is an Spioraid Naoimh ar na crosa seo, ar na háiteanna ina bhfuil said agus ar gach duine a fhéachann orthu.”
Guí an Phobail
Bhí creideamh láidir ag Bríd. Chuir sí a muinín go hiomlán i nDia agus tháinig Dia i gcabhair uirthi. Guímis go muiníneach chun Dé mar a rinne Bríd.
1. A Dhia, neartaigh ár gcreideamh, ár ndóchas agus ár ngrá. A Thiarna, éist linn.
2. Bhí Bríd cineálta leis na bochtáin agus na heasláin. A Dhia, cabhraigh linn aithris a dhéanamh uirthi.
3. Bhí grá ag Bríd d’ainmhithe, d’éin agus do gach rud a chruthaigh Dia. Múin dúinn, a Dhia, conas aire a thabhairt don timpeallacht.
4. Rinne Bríd réiteach idir dhaoine. A Dhia, taispeáin dúinn conas síocháin a chothú pé áit ina mbeimid.
5. A Dhia, tabhair saoirse ó chogadh, ó ghorta agus ó ghéarlaenúint dóibh siúd atá ag fulaingt.

A Dhia, bhronn tú do ghrásta go fial ar Bhríd chun do ghrá agus do thrócaire a léiriú do mhuintir na hÉireann. Beannaigh ár dtír agus lion ár gcroíthe le do ghrásta ionas go mbeimid ábalta grá Dé a léiriú agus síocháin agus aontacht a chothú pé áit ina mbeimid. Sin é ár nguí chugat trí Chríost á dTiarna. Amen

Sunday February 2nd is Candlemas Day and the Feast of the Presentation. On this day we celebrate the Presentation of the Child Jesus in the Temple. Also, candles are traditionally blessed today.
Monday February 3rd is the Feast of St. Blaise. On this day throats are blessed with a crossed candle in his memory.
St. Blaise, bishop of Sebaste in Armenia, is believed to have been martyred in the early fourth century. Very little is know about him. Tradition states that he was a physician before becoming a bishop. Since the eighth century he has been venerated as the patron of those who suffer from disease of the throat. He is said to have healed a boy who was choking. The blessing of St. Blaise is a sign of our faith in God’s protection and love for us and for the sick.
Using two crossed and unlighted candles, blessed on the memorial of St. Blaise or on the feast of the Presentation of the Lord, the Priest touches the throat of each person, saying:
Through the intercession of St. Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from all ailments of the throat and from every other evil (or from every disease of the throat and from every other illness):
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Beannú na Scornach trí idirghuí Naomh Bláisias, Easpag agus Mairtíreach, go gcosnaí Dia tú ó gach éalaig scornaí agus ó gach tinneas eile, trí Chríost ár dTiarna. Amen.
