Mission Thanks from the late Fr. Tom Lynch SVD

Kankria, Manpur P.O.,

India

Dear Fathers Tom and Bernard,

Many thanks for your welcome letter and for the money collected from the crib. It’s the first time the Dingle Parish donated money for our work here. The money will be used to pay for the many patients who can’t afford to pay for medicine and often just die. I help one clinic ten miles away and send many patients there. Another mission hospital who have x-rays etc. is where I send those who need them. Both are run by Nuns and the Sister in charge tells that I am the only one who helps them. So this is how your donation will be spent.

I am close to 80th age and in five weeks time will be 50 years in India. So I have to be satisfied with paying for them.

Since I have left Dingle in 1951 I haven’t been very much back there. I left that year to study forestry in the Government school at Avondale, Co. Wicklow but three years later left the job to join the Divine Word Missionaries. The Ventry parish through its school are, for a very long time helpers of my work. Every Christmas the teacher, Eileen Houlihan, sends a large sum of money for a Christmas meal for all the local people. More than a thousand turn up – all non Christians. This is the main Christmas event here since I myself live alone and the liturgy is mostly private unless some wandering Christians turn up!

So in that way through Ventry parish school and the personal effort of Eileen Houlihan Christmas reaches out to India and the papers wrote that “the Christians are great to share their feast with non Christians people of the area” so in that way already your parish through Ventry especially has reached out to India. So thanks for all this and the crib donations.

Gratefully yours,

Fr. Tom Lynch S.V.D., (Milltown, Dingle)

The Medical Missionaries of Mary – Buíochas

Dear Fr. Tom,

Hope your travels went well. We had a wonderful weekend in Dingle and had such a marvellous welcome, it was unbelievable.

Please thank all the people, and most especially Fr. Bernard whose help was invaluable and who inspired us so much.

We also had a great experience in Ballyferriter, and would have enjoyed the lovely Kerry landscape if we could have seen it, but we only saw dense mist!!!

I enclose some posters that you might like to put in the churches. As you can see, the people have been extremely generous, donating a total of €3,190, despite the difficult times everyone is experiencing.

Many, many thanks, and may God bless you all,

Sr. Isabella,

P.S. The picture on our poster is Sr. Dr. Maura Lynch operating at Kiltouu Hospital, Uganda, where the beds and furniture from the old Dingle Hospital were sent.

Mission Month

We are all invited to pray for the missionary church keeping in mind all missionaries, both lay and religious from our own communities and families. The Kerry Diocesan Mission Commission encourage all our Confirmation candidates to take full interest in Bishop Liam Ó Murchú’s appeal for making a direct contribution to the African School Charity chosen to benefit from the Confirmation children in 2012.

Radio Kerry’s “Just a Thought” for the coming week will be presented by Fr. Tomás.

The RCIA – “Come and See”

For a number of weeks now the RCIA, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, has been featuring in the Parish Newsletters of the Corca Dhuibhne Pastoral Area.  Parishioners have been reminded of their baptismal calling to share, through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, in the life and mission of Christ.  It is a calling to proclaim the Gospel and share with the world the Good News of God’s generous and unconditional love that, as Catholics, we have been privileged to know and live through the gift of faith.

The Rite stresses that all, as individuals and as members of the Church and faith community in a particular parish or area, have a vital contribution to make to the mission of the Church by being unselfish in sharing the gifts which each one of us has received from God through the Holy Spirit, especially the gift of faith.

The RCIA, therefore, is not just the concern of the priests; nor is it just the concern of the team who have been invited to lead and facilitate the RCIA programme.  It is a shared responsibility.  We are all involved!  In taking this duty, this call to mission, seriously our own faith will be strengthened, our lives will be greatly enriched and so will the life of our communities as we welcome new members and open our lives to the gifts they bring with them.

If you are still wondering what the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is all about and why it should concern you, the RCIA team are providing two evening sessions in the Díseart on:

Tuesday Oct 18th 8.00 to 930pm: The RCIA: The Vision of Vatican II for the Church of the Future.

Tuesday 25th of October 8.00 to 9.30pm: The RCIA: A Challenge to our Church today.

NB: All are welcome to attend. Fáilte roimh cách.

Introducing the New Missal on Nov. 27th

What differences can we expect in November 2011? From 27 November, the First Sunday of Advent, congregations and priests will use the texts of the new edition of the Roman Missal for the celebration of Mass. While the structure, actions and pattern of the Mass will remain the same and the readings will be unchanged, the texts of recited prayers will sound different to our ears. Over time, as the new style of language become familiar to us, it is very much hoped that we will come to appreciate both the richness and depth of our prayer at Mass. (to be continued)
