Cross from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital

With great joy we inform you that the very old crucifix which was in the upper ward of Dingle Hospital has been given as a gift to St. Mary’s Church. As it has now being completely restored by crafts people in Gaeltacht Bhaile Mhic Íre we will have it for use in our services and veneration of this Aoine Chéasta. Henceforth, it will be on permanent display in St. Mary’s Sacristy. Táimid sár buíoch do údarásaí HSE as ocht an bhronntanas a ghabháil siad orainn.

Go mbeannaíthear duit, a Chros, a bhuinneáin ghleighil úir,

Go mbeannaíthear duit, a Chrainn, ar ár céasadh Críost.

Go mbeannaíthear duit, a Rí, a síneadh ar an gcrois.

Impí cuirim chugat, gach smál peaca dá bhfuil ar m’anam,

A leagan ar an gcolainn, ós í is mó rinne an choir.

Blessing on you, O Cross, shining new-grown branch;

Blessings on you, O Tree, on which Christ suffered.

Blessings on you, O King, who was stretched upon the cross.

This prayer I make to you, that every stain of sin on my soul

May be laid upon my body, since it is my body that sinned the most. ( Saltair: Pádraig Ó Fiannachta / Desmond Forristal)
