Dear Pastoral and Liturgy Group, I thank you for your kind invitation to your celebration for the close of the year of the Priest. Unfortunately, much as I would like to be present, I have to say, I cannot possibly be present on that date. Our schools close on the 25th June, both Primary and the Higher school. There are all kinds of celebrations leading up to that date, prize-giving, graduation ceremonies and Masses in the schools. So we are well tied down. I am still Parish Priest here at the tender age of eighty six. Because of the critical shortage of Priests, the Bishop has asked us to soldier on. In other words ‘to die with our boots on’. Le gach dea ghuí, Canon Jim Ashe, St. Bernadette’s, Motherwell. Dear Pastoral and Liturgy Group, May the Lord give you Peace. Thank you so much for inviting me to be part of the parish’s concelebration to mark the end of the Year of the Priest. Congratulations as I have not heard of any other parish organizing such an event. I entered the Franciscan novitiate in Killarney in 1953 and in 1961 was ordained in Rome. I spent 48 years in South Africa as a missionary. It was great to see Mons. Pádraig and an tAth Tomás Ó hIceadha, whom I remember when he was a young priest along with Fr. John Joe Donnelly, RIP from when I was young, taking part in the Concelebration from Cuas. Go mbeannaí Dia sibh go léir. Fr. Harry Houlihan OFM, Franciscan Friary, Cork. ‘Who sings, prays twice’ St. Augustine (1) Sweet Heart of Jesus Sweet Heart of Jesus! Fount of love and mercy, today we come, thy blessings to implore; Oh touch our hearts so cold and so ungrateful, and make them Lord, thine own forevermore. Sweet Heart of Jesus! We implore, Oh, make us love thee, more and more. Sweet Heart of Jesus! Make us pure and gentle, and teach us how to do thy blessed will; to follow close the print of thy dear footsteps, and when we fall, sweet Heart oh, love us still. Sweet Heart of Jesus! Bless all hearts that love thee, and make thine own heart ever blessed be. Bless us dear Lord, and bless the friends we cherish, and keep us true to Mary and to thee. (2) (Salm) Imígí Faoi an Domhain Uile Molaigí an Tiarna, a chiníocha go léir; moladh an uile náisiúin é. Chorus: Imígí faoi an Domhain uile, Fógraígí an dea-scéal Óir is mór é go deimhin, a ghrá dúinn; maireann a dhílseacht go brách. (3) Seek Ye First Seek ye first the Kingdom Ask and it shall be given of God, unto you, And his righteousness, Seek and you shall find; and all these things shall be Knock, and it shall be added unto you; opened unto you, Allelu, Alleluia. Allelu, alleluia. Alleluia alleluia, Alleluia, allelu, alleluia. (4) Ag Críost an Síol Ag Críost an síol, ag Críost an fómhar, In iothlainn Dé go dtugtar sinn. Ag Críost an mhuir, ag Críost an tiasc, i líonta Dé go gcastar sinn. Ó fhás go haois, is ó aois go bás, Do dhá láimh, a Chríost, anall tharainn. Ó bhás go críoch, ní críoch ach ath-fhás i bParathas na ngrást go rabhaimid. (5) Céad Míle Fáilte Céad míle fáilte romhat, a Íosa, a Íosa, Céad míle fáilte romhat, a Íosa, Céad míle fáilte romhat, a Shlánaitheoir, Céad míle, míle fáilte romhat, ‘Íosa, a Íosa. Glóir agus moladh duit, a Íosa, a Íosa, Glóir agus moladh duit, a Íosa. Glóir agus moladh duit, a Shlánaitheoir, Glóir, moladh agus buíochas duit, ‘Íosa, a Íosa. (6) Christ be beside me Christ be beside me, Christ be before me, Christ be behind me, King of my heart. Christ be within me, Christ be below me, Christ be above me, never to part. Christ on my right hand, Christ on my left hand, Christ all around me, shield in the strife Christ in my sleeping, Christ in my sitting, Christ in my rising, light of my life. (7) I’ll sing a hymn to Mary I’ll sing a hymn to Mary, Rejoice, O holy Mary, the mother of my God, O Virgin full of grace, the virgin of all virgins, the Lord is ever with you, of David’s royal blood, most blessed of our race. O holy mother Mary, Ask Christ your Son we pray To grant us his forgiveness, And guide us on his way.
