Bliain an Chreidimh – Our Patron Saints
Laochra an Chreidimh No.25.
Naomh Josephine. Rugadh Naomh Josephine sa bliain 1869 sa Afraic. Bhí triúr deirfiúr aici. Idir an aois seacht agus a naoi thóg trádálaí sclábhaí ón Araib í agus díol sí í mar sclábhaí. Nuair a tháinig sí saor ón sclábhaíocht chuaigh sí a móid ar an 8ú Nollaig 1896.
D’obair sí mar chócaire agus sacraisteoir. Bhí clú agus cáil uirthi de bharr a mion gháire agus a mánlacht. Ag deireadh a saol bhí alán pian agus tinneas aici. Fuair sí bás ar an 8ú Feabhra 1947. Déanadh Naomh asti sa bliain 2000. Is é an 8ú Feabhra a lá ceiliúradh. Phioc mé Naomh Josephine toisc go bhfuil an ainm i mo chlann. Tar eis léamh mar gheall uirthi bhí ana mheas agam uirthi toisc gur thug sí maithiúnas go dtí na daoine a thóg í agus a úsáid í i gcóir sclabhaíochta. (Áine –Bunscoil an Ghleanna)

Machnamh: Children Learn What They Live
If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.
If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.
If children live with jealously, they learn to feel envy.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If children live with tolerance, they learn patience.
If children live with praise, they learn appreciation.
If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.
If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.
If children live with recognition, they learn that it is good to have a goal.
If children live with sharing, they learn generosity.
If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.
If children live with fairness, they learn justice.
If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect.
If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those about them
If children live with friendliness, they learn that the world is a nice place in which to live. (Dorothy Nolte)

Stations of the Cross in Lent
Stations of the Cross will take place every Sunday at 7pm in St. Mary’s Church, Dingle. Fáilte roimh cách.
The Way of the Cross – In the early 15th Century a Dominican Priest, now known as Blessed Alvarez of Cordova, visited the Holy Land. So impressed was he, that on his return to Europe he built one of the earliest Ways of the Cross. He only had 8 Stations, but the number was gradually added to the modern 14 Stations. The practice of saying the Stations of the Cross is one of the most popular devotions today.
Move from Station to Station meditating on the scene and praying one Our Father; one Hail Mary and one Glory. (To be contd)

The experience of the ‘transfiguration’ in today’s Gospel is an important one. It gives those involved – Jesus and his disciples – the strength for the difficult journey ahead. This Lent, may we also be renewed in our journey in life. In particular, we pray that our own ‘transfiguration’ moments truly change us and renew us to live lives of loving service for those most in need of our help and support.
Ambika Paraja is the 9 year old girl on our 2013 Trócaire box. Her mother Dharama says this of her:
“Ambika is very obedient and listens to me. If I say to go to school she will. She is very disciplined. She does all her own work, cleaning her clothes and keeping her books in place and she also helps me with the housework. She collects water and sweeps the floor. If there is something to be brought from the shop she will go and get the rice or potatoes. She also cleans the house and sweeps the outside. She is very good, she listens to me; she helps me.”
Trócaire invites you to be in solidarity with this family and their community this Lent; praying for them and supporting them, in whatever way you can.
