Is róbhreá an stór tá ag Rí na Glóire dúinn i dtaisce,
A chuid fola agus feola mar lón do na peacaigh.
Ná cuirigí bhur ndóchas in ór bhuí ná i rachmas
Mar is bréagán mar cheo é,

Confirmation/Cóineartú 2012
Confirmation Day / Lá an Easpaig
Comhghairdeas to the 41 children of 6th classes in our Bunscoileanna and 2 adults who received the Sacrament of Cóineartú on Tuesday from Bishop Liam Ó Murchú. We include Erik Mitchell’s testimony reflecting on how parents can encourage devotion to the Eucharist in the home.
A Parent’s Reflection – Fostering the Love of the Eucharist in Your Children
When I was apprenticing with my father, he would tell me that two things that would make it possible to go any where in the world and make my way, were a trade and a love for the Eucharist. People would always need a house or a cabinet, and so with a trade I would be able to make a living. The Eucharist was something that would sustain you in a time of need or success. He pointed out that in anyplace in the world there is a Catholic church, the Eucharist would be available and it would be the same regardless of culture, language or local practices. It was good advice and so I share it with you.
Catholics are realists. We are called to face the realities of sin and corruption and our part in it. We have been given real sacraments with real effects. Jesus Christ claimed that the Bread was really his body and the wine was really his blood. If we believe in the real presence we will find our salvation. There is no room here for a sentimental attachment, this is truly a matter of life and death.
The one Body, the body of Jesus Christ has never been diminished, never changed. The Church has two requirements for the validity of a Mass, a Priest who has been commissioned through the laying on of hands and the proper wording of the consecration of bread and wine. This makes the question of our faith independent of the particular Priest or his moral standing. The state of our own souls is actually more important.
If we teach our children to stay close to the Holy Eucharist, they will always have consolation and direction when they need it. For many of us, our children are in other parts of the world. The Eucharist connects us with them, and likewise. Our families are connected through time and space. With those who have come before us and those who come after us.
A love for the Eucharist is a practice that can be best passed on by example. If we partake, then a value is created, and if we are lukewarm, the message is sent. Saturday was a workday with my father, but it started with Mass with my Grandfather, my father and my brother and sisters. That was an important part of my apprenticeship. Start with going to Mass whenever you can, and rely on God. Erik Mitchell
Kerry Diocesan Turkana Project
Our Mission Committee decided to ask the Confirmation children in Kerry to help the children of Turkana in care of Mercy St. Margaret Twomey.
All candidates are invited to make a contribution. They experience terrible drought. The people are mostly nomads, where the men take their herds to pasture where ever they can find grass and water. The women and children are left at home with little food or water. The children are very malnourished. The donations from the children of Kerry will be used for the children only. Further details on www.dioceseofkerry.ie All donations to Kerry Mission Committee, Diocesan Office, Killarney.
