Laochra an Chreidimh II – Patrons
Naomh Bríd: Is í Naomh Bríd duine des na príomh phátrúin atá in Éirinn. ‘S iad na mór naoimh eile atá againn sa tír seo ná Naomh Pádraig agus Naomh Columba. Tá a lá féile ar an gcéad lá de mhí Feabhra. Rugadh í timpeall na bliana 453 i Faughart i gCo. Lú. Fuair sí bás timpeall na bliana 524. Bhí sí seachtó nuair a chailleadh í. Bhí a hathair ina thaoiseach agus sclábhaí ab ea a máthair. Tá cáil ar Naomh Bríd mar go raibh sí an-fhlaithiúil i gconaí, go mór mhór agus í óg.Theastaigh óna hathair go bpósfadh sí ach ní raibh sí sásta. Theastaigh uaithi a bheith ina bean rialta. Bhunaigh sí clochar mór i gCo. Chill Dara. D’úsáid sí a clóca beannaithe chun talamh a fháil ó thaoiseach áitiúil a bhí ansan thuas. Thug sí an-aire dos na bochtáin agus dos na daoine a bhí breoite. Tá scéal an-cháiliúil faoi Naomh Bríd agus conas mar a dhein sí an chéad chrois as luachair. Deintear an chrois san fós anseo timpeall ar an gcéad lá de Feabhra.
Tá scéal eile ann a bhaineann le sionnach. Bhí rí ann fádo agus rug sé ar sionnach fiáin. Thraenáil sé agus cheansaigh sé an sionnach. Lá amháin mharaigh fear an sionnach. Bhí an rí ar buile agus gabhadh an fear. Bhí an rí chun é a chur chun báis muna bhféadfadh sé sionnach eile a fháil a bhí chomh maith leis an gceann a maraíodh. Tháinig sionnach go dtí Bríd ag lorg faoiseamh ón dream a bhí á fhiach. Rug Naomh Bríd ar an sionnach agus thug sí don rí é. Bhí an-áthas ar an rí sionnach eile a fháil agus scaoileadh an fear saor arís. (Leah – Scoil an Ghleanna)
