Corpus Christi Blessing of Boats and Cuan

Lord God, ruler of the universe, bless these boats And all who will sail in them.

Reward those who have laboured in them.

Protect them in fair weather and foul,

And bring them to peaceful harbours when the voyage is done.

Protect all seafarers and fishermen in the duties and dangers of their calling.

Bless all who work to make safe the seaways,

And all who work in the rescue services.

Let the blessing of your peace be upon us all,

Through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

PARISH FINANCE COMMITTEE

Dear Parishioners,

As it is now possible for our parish to claim back tax paid on charitable donations, our Parish Finance Committee would be most grateful to the eligible households who received the Taxback forms during the week, if they could return them as soon as is convenient in the envelopes provided. If you have contributed €250 or more last year, (2010) and are a PAYE worker, we can claim back the tax paid on the amount you donated. All you have to do is complete and return the form which you will receive. Completing the form will cost you nothing, but will greatly benefit the parish as you saw in our published financial accounts for 2010, when we acknowledged the sum of €16,630.53 received as Tax Rebate from the Revenue for 2009.

Go méadaí Dia bhúr stór.

A Íosa Mhilis

ní suíochán duit mo theanga,

ní lóistín duit mo chroí;

ach bronn orm do bheannaitheacht,

‘s go bhfana sí agam choíche.

Fómhar na Farraige 2011

A special céad míle fáilte to all who join us for our 11.30am celebration of Fómhar na Farraige or The Harvest of the Sea.  We extend our thanks to those who help organise this annual liturgy, the Dingle Cliff and Coast Rescue who prepare and decorate the Church, those who supply the wonderful display of fish, all those who contribute items for the procession of symbols and for the decoration of the church. Buíochas to all who play a special part in the Fisherman’s Mass as we offer our thanks to the Lord and ask His blessing on all whose livelihood depends on the sea.

Those who bring up the gifts  place before us symbols of the great harvest of fish and other products which come from the sea, as well as items representing different aspects of the sea-faring life and marine activities. Others present the bread and wine which become the Body and Blood of Christ. Our readers, those who read prayers of the faithful and the reflection –proclaim the life-giving Word of the Lord who created sea and sky and ask His abundant blessing.

Fómhar ár bhfarraige, The bountiful, life-giving harvest of our seas.

Moladh go deo le Dia na Cruinne.

Dingle Bay

The sun was sinking o’er the westward

The fleet is leaving Dingle shore

I watch the men row in their curraghs

As they mark the fishing grounds near Sceilig Mór

All through the night men toil until the daybreak

while at home their wives and sweethearts kneel and pray

That God might guard them and protect them

and bring them safely back to Dingle Bay.

I see the green Isle of Valentia

I mind the days around Lough Léin

The gannets swinging with abandon

As they watch the silver store that comes their way

I also see a ship on the horizon

She is sailing to a country far away

on board are exiles feeling lonely

As they wave a fond farewell to Dingle Bay.

Now years have passed as I came homeward

And time has left me old and grey

I sit and muse about my childhood

And the happy times I spent near Dingle Bay

I see again the green isle of Valentia

And the Isle of Inishmore seems far away

And I’m always dreaming of my childhood

And the happy days I spent near Dingle Bay.

Fómhar na Feirme

mass will be celebrated on Sunday 14th August at 11.30am when we give thanks for the Fruits of the Land.
