Benemerenti from Pope Benedict XVI

The Benemerenti medal was instituted by Pope Gregory XVI in 1832 and is conferred on those who have exhibited long and exceptional service to the Catholic Church, their families and community.

The word benemerenti (to a well deserving person) is on the back of the medal, surrounded by a crown of oak leaves; the ribbon is made of Papal colours, yellow and white. In 1925, the concept of awarding this medal as a mark of recognition to persons in service of the Church, together with an accompanying certificate was instituted.

On Tuesday last three Benemerenti medals, forwarded and blessed by Pope Benedict XVI, were conferred on Eileen Griffin and Angus and Mollie Moncur honouring their work in our Parish community. They were joined by previous recipients Eileen Keane and Maureen O’Sullivan of Lios Póil.

In conjunction with Kerry Diocesan Human Resources officer, our Parish Pastoral Council and Parish Finance Committee also took the opportunity to honour and present a gift to our outgoing Parish Clerk and Archivist James McKenna in recognition of his help over the years.

‘Moladh go deo le Dia’

 Introducing the New Missal

From the 1st Sunday of Advent, November 27th 2011, there will be a New Missal for use at Mass throughout the English speaking world. It contains some changes to the people’s parts of the Mass.

When and why are we getting a new edition of the Roman Missal?

The new edition of the Missal will come into full use over a period of time between September and 27 November 2011, the First Sunday of Advent. The new edition is necessary for a number of reasons. Firstly, in the years since 1975 when our current Missal was published, a number of additional texts have been made available for use in the Mass. Theses include additional Eucharistic Prayers, some new Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Masses for over twenty new Feasts of Saints (for example, St. Pius of Pietrelcina / Padre Pio, Edith Stein, Maximilian Kolbe). The new material is to be included in the Missal so that it can be used in our celebrations.

Secondly, in 2001 the Holy See issued new directives for the translation of the Latin texts. Translators were asked to make the English text follow more closely the original Latin in its wording and structure. They were also asked to strengthen the biblical language and images in the texts and to reintroduce some theological vocabulary that may have been lost over the years.

Across the English-speaking world the new edition of the Roman Missal will therefore contain both new material and a new style of translation.

Prayer For All Exam Students

We ask you to remember in your prayers all exam students.

Tar, a Spioraid Naoimh.
Líon anama na bfíréan
agus las tine do ghrá iontu.
Seol uait do Spiorad agus cruthófar iad
agus athnuachfaidh tú an domhan go léir.
Tusa a theagasc croíthe na bhfíréan
trí sholas an Spioraid Naoimh.
Deónaigh, trí dheóntas an Spioraid chéanna
go mbeidh muid i gcónaí fíor-chríonna
agus go síorraí gliondrach i n-a shonas.
Trí Chríost Ár dTiarna. Amén

Prayers of the Faithful

1.     For our Holy Father Pope Benedict, our Bishop Liam on his Golden Jubilee year and all ministers of God’s word; may their preaching and teaching inspire us to be living witnesses.         Lord, hear us.

4.     For all for whom these are difficult times; may they find courage and inspiration in Jesus who is with them until the end of time.    Lord hear us

5.     For our family, relatives and friends who have completed their earthly pilgrimage, especially John Griffin and Timmy Kelliher; may they see the Lord face to face.                Lord, hear us.

Churchgate Collections

Dingle Parish Pastoral Council reminds all holders of Garda permits for Churchgate Collections to please carefully observe the law involved and note that there are 21 conditions attached to all Garda permits. While the community spirit and selfless generosity of all volunteers is to be lauded, it is advised that they retain a copy or photocopy of the actual permit. On no account should such collections be taken up within church buildings. Therefore, as all Churchgate collections must enjoy Garda clearance, it is essential that State law be both respected and observed at all times.
