Thought for the day
Official memorial celebrations are familiar to us, marking wars or national events. Often, these are coloured by a mixture of sadness and gratitude. The Christian memorial of the last week of Jesus’ life is entirely different. First of all, we tell the whole story again because he is risen from the dead. Secondly, this memorial is an effective one: as we do this in memory of him, the very same gifts of compassion, forgiveness, love and healing are offered again to all present, precisely because Jesus is risen from the dead. Our Christian memory is not a dead remembering but an effective bringing into the present of the great events that gave us new life in Christ. Prayer Saving God, as we recall in word and gesture the great events of salvation, let us know your healing love once more. Amen.

A Coronavirus Prayer
Loving and healing God,
we, the people of Dingle, Fionn Trá and
Lios Póíl turn to you in prayer,
confident that you are with us and with all people in every moment.
We stand before you as people of hope, trusting in your care and protection.
May your faithful love support us and soothe the anxiety of our hearts.
Generous God,
fill us with compassion and concern for others, young and old,
that we may look after one another in these challenging days.
Bring healing to those who are sick with the virus and be with their families. May those who have died rest in your eternal embrace.
Comfort their family and friends.
Strengthen and protect all medical professionals caring for the sick and all who work in our medical facilities. Give wisdom to leaders in healthcare and governance
that they may make the right decisions for the well-being of people.
We pray in gratitude for all those in our country who will continue to work in the days ahead in so many fields of life for the sake of us all.
Bless them and keep them safe.
O God of creation and life,
we place ourselves in your protection.
May the mantle of your peace enfold us this day and tomorrow.
St ……., pray for us.
St ……., pray for us.
St ……., pray for us.
May all the saints of God, pray for us. Amen.
Psalm 91
Whoever goes to the Lord for safety
whoever remains under the protection of
the almighty, can say to him,
“You are my defender and protector.
You are my God, in you I trust”.
He will keep you safe from all hidden dangers and from all deadly diseases.
He will cover you with his wings;
you will be safe in his care; His faithfulness will protect and defend you.
You need not fear any dangers at night
or sudden attacks during the day
at the plagues that strikes in the dark
or the evils that kill in daylight.
A thousand may fall dead beside you,
ten thousand all round you, but you will not be harmed. You will look and see
how the wicked are punished.
You have made the lord your defender,
the most high your protector,
and so no disaster will strike you;
no violence will come near your home.
God will put his angels in charge of you,
to protect you wherever you go.
They will hold you up with their hands to keep you from hurting your feet on the stones. You will trample down lions and snakes, fierce lions and poisonous snakes.
