Bliain an Chreidimh – Our Patron Saints Laochra an Chreidimh No.50.
Naomh Bernadette – Rugadh Naomh Bernadette i Lourdes i 1844. Bhí thimpist aici a ghortaigh a súil agus i 10. Chuireadar fúthu mar chlann san príosún darbh ainm An Cachot. Fuair sí breoite ag Cholera leis agus bhí a clann beo bocht. Bhí uirthi dul ag obair agus i 14 mar go raibh a clann sásta léi é sin a dhéanamh agus go raibh grá mór ag a tuismitheoirí dá chéile agus do na leanaí. Nuair a bhí sí ag trasnú abhainn in aice le baile lá amháin chonaic Bernadette ‘an bhean álainn’ Muire. Tháinig Muire chuici go minic ina dhiaidh sin agus thug Muire teachtaireachtaí di. Bhí Bernadette ana ghairid do Mhuire. Ní chreid a lán daoine go raibh Muire ag teacht go Bernadette agus d’fhulaing sí go mór mar gheall ar a creideamh. Ní thug sí isteach don bhrú seo áfach. Bhí sí láidir. Roghnaigh mé Bernadette mar ainm mar bhí Bernadette láidir. Bhí creideamh láidir aici. Bhí saol crua aici ach ní lig sí do sin cur isteach urithi. Chonaic sí na rudaí a bhí tábhachtach – grá an chlann agus grá do Dhia. Fiú nuair a bhí rudaí deacair agus í ag rá an fhírinne ní stop sé sin í ón rud ceart a dhéanamh. Lean sí Muire fiú nuair a bhí sé deacair é sin a dhéanamh mar bhí a fhios aici gur é sin an rud ceart le déanamh. (Niamh– Scoil Ceann Trá)

Glór na hUaighe – Geataí na Glóire
St. Brendan’s Cemetery, Milltown
An Díseart has on exhibition a wonderful Bob Ó Cathail painting of the ancient Geataí na Glóire standing stones of Milltown. The largest cemetery in Dingle Parish is sited to the west of the town in an area steeped in the tradition and heritage of the folk who have peopled Corca Dhuibhne for millennia. The twin Gullaun stones mark a site sacred to the ancients and to the parishioners in our day.
“Just outside Dingle to the west is a junction, signposted. Take the left junction for Slea Head. After about 200 yards, at the top of a rise in the road, just being a modern burial ground at Milltown, are the remains of an ancient burial ground inside a field gate to the right. Here are two large gallans, ‘the gates of glory’. Beside one of them is a smaller gallán. Between the ‘gates’ are what look like two ruined dolmens. On one of these are typical scribings – deep cup marks, circles and other marks. (No 241)
Intriguing relics, which may be of these people, are rock scribing, of which Kerry is a major source, with the heaviest concentration in south Kerry. The scribings are pock marks on large boulders and rocks, often in remote places, but none of them far distant from the coast. It is probable that from Kerry the scribings spread, along the usual trading route, to north Britain and Scandinavia.
The scribings fall into two classes – those that, as have seen, hark back to the passage grave art of Newgrange and elsewhere; and those that are called ‘Galician’. Some of the designs seem to have very old association with the eastern Mediteranean. Complex scribings can be seen at …. Milltown, Dingle.” (No. 153)

Mass Rock at Coumduff, Annascaul
The Corca Dhuibhne Pastoral Area Mass in Coumduff, Annascaul will take place on Friday July 26th at 7:30pm. All parishioners are invited to pass on the word about this Year of Faith gathering. The Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Raymond Browne, newly ordained Bishop of Kerry.
Please notify family and friends who may be holidaying at this time as they might take the opportunity to join with us in pilgrim prayer at a revered holy place in our West Kerry landscape.
This Mass Rock was used during the Penal Days for the celebration of Mass in this area. According to Fr. John Ashe in his book “Annascaul Revisited and Reviewed”, this is one of the best preserved and also one of the best authenticated Mass Rocks in existence. It is situated in a deep gorge at the rear of Loch Scaul, a locality which because of its sacred association has come down to us under the name of ‘Soggarth’ . Surrounded on every side by precipitous mountains, with only one possible avenue of approach, Soggarth provided an ideal hideout for the celebration of the Supreme, if forbidden, Act of Divine Worship. Very suitably shaped for its sacred purpose, the Rock is symmetrically rimmed, round to a depth of about 12 inches from the top, giving it a remarkable resemblance to a very large old time travelling trunk. Close by, at no great distance from the Rock, is ‘Tobareen na Comeena’ – the little Communion Well – where, tradition has it the priest secured water for use at Mass, and the faithful broke their fast after Holy Communion. The water in this well is said to be the purest and the coolest in all the parish.
NB: Full programme and guidelines will be in next week’s Newsletter. Enquiries 066-9151208.
Dingle Parish Liturgy Group
Liturgy group meeting will be held in the Sacristy this Wed July 17th at 8pm to organise Fómhar na Farraige and Fómhar na Feirme Liturgies.
