Laochra an Chreidimh II – Patrons
Dom Hélder Camara: On 16th April last it was announced that Rome had officially authorised that the process of beatification of Dom Hélder Camara could begin. Dom Hélder (1909-1999) had been the beloved Archbishop of Olinda Recife in North Eastern Brazil for twenty years. Son of a journalist, he became a priest of the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro and quickly distinguished himself as an outstanding orator and organiser. He lived simply and was always close to the poor. He was active in Catholic Action and in 1952, at the age of 43, became an auxiliary bishop of Rio. He was the chief organiser of the Brazilian Bishops Conference (CNBB) and later of the Latin American Bishops’ Conference (CELAM).
He was very active in the sessions of the Second Vatican Council where he invited his fellow bishops to give their gold crosses and jewelled rings as a donation to the poor. His suggestion fell on deaf ears. In 1964, his appointment to Olinda and Recife coincided with the beginning of the military dictatorship. His fearless preaching and criticism of the dictatorship meant he was forbidden to be reported in his own country. A diminutive figure, his defence of human rights and of the poor caused him to be nominated four times for the Nobel Peace Prize. He retired to live very simply, beloved by the people, in the sacristy of one of Recife’s churches.
Fr. Tomás Ó Luanaigh met him in London and Lima during his Emigrant Chaplaincy and Peru missionary service. (The Far East Magazine – July/August 2015)

Slán agus Beannacht ón tAthair Tomás
A Phobal na Páirte,
Slán 7 buíochas ó chroí as I bid farewell to Pobal Dé of Dingle, Ceann Trá agus Lios Póil after living and working here with you all for the past 8 years. I put on record my sincerest gratitude to each and every one of you.
Bishop Ó Murchú appointed me to serve as your Sagart Paróiste for a 6 year term in 2007. That led to the further Corca Dhuibhne pastoral responsibilities of being made Administrator of both Castlegregory / Clochán agus Baile an Fheirtéaraigh Parishes due to the ill-health of my Priest colleagues.
Dingle Parish Pastoral Council’s “Treoraí” or “Parish Directory” identifies some 600 parishioners actually involved in the work of the Lord in our Parish – moladh go deo le Dia agus gura bhfada buan é. I ask you to continue to welcome and support Fr. Seosamh Ó Beaglaoí as I move to Fossa na Féinne chois Loch Léin and please keep us both in your prayers.
Sincerely in Mac Mhuire,
Tomás B. Ó Luanaigh S.P.
Aifreann Bhuíochais agus Oíche Cheiliúradh

NB: Please note that the date has been changed from the Saturday night to Monday July 20th and at the earlier time of 7.30pm.
Fáilte roimh cách. Bí ann gan teip.
We pray God’s blessing on all our Priests.
Lord Jesus, you have chosen your priests from among us and sent them out to proclaim your Word, to act in your name. For so great a gift to your Church, we give you praise and thanksgiving.
May the Holy Spirit put your word on their lips and your love in their hearts, to bring good news to the poor and healing to the broken-hearted.
And may the gift of Mary your mother,
to the disciple whom he loved,
be your gift to every priest. Amen.
