LENT 2020: Lent is a season that has a great appeal for many people. There are still the things we like to give up or to do for Lent. However, for some of us, the good intentions on Ash Wednesday don’t carry us through to Easter Sunday. This year the Liturgy group has adapted a program which has been used by some other parishes. Copy of our Lenten Program is available on line.

Priest on duty this Sunday:
Fr Michael Moynihan – 087-6551902.

St Mary’s Church will remain open each day except when ceremonies are taking place. For the moment the Church will open on Tuesday and Thursday at the later time of 10.30am. Séipéal Naomh Eoin Baiste and Séipéal Naomh Caitlín will also be open.
COVID-19 / Corona Virus
The Diocese of Kerry has issued Guidelines regarding Masses and other liturgies in the context of Covid-19 pandemic.

• Churches will be open each day for private prayer. In attending church people are asked to follow all guidelines, including hand –washing before coming to church and on return home, keeping their distance from any person they meet, and also minimising their touching of hard surfaces.
• The continuance of ringing the church bell at 11am on Sunday morning is recommended, it is a call to us all to pause and spend a few minutes with God in prayer, uniting with all in our diocese. Any who hear it will be reminded that we are never alone, Christ is with us, our strength and guide.
• We realise that we must give full cooperation to our government and the HSE. There is 10.30am daily Mass on the RTE News Now channel.
• People have mentioned that saying the Rosary (or one decade) each evening has new meaning for them. A decade is just one Our Father, ten Hail Marys and a Glory be to the Father. It is a simple way of spending two minutes tuned to God. Rosary sheet available on both Dingle Website page and Dingle page on Diocese of Kerry website.
• Pray for example the mystery ‘the Carrying of the Cross’ pondering that Christ knows what it is to suffer; or the Mystery of ‘the Descent of the Holy Spirit’, Christ is at work in our lives through the Holy Spirit; or the mystery of ‘the Assumption’, Mary in heaven reassures us of what God’s love and care in Jesus Christ and His offer of eternal life.
• Time each day for prayer can give inner calm amid these very unsettling days. When we pray:
• we unite in Christ with all who pray in our parish
• we reflect on Christian HOPE, “we can cope with what each day brings because God is our strength”
• calling to mind how difficult many in our communities are finding these days, we pray that we might all be there for each other at this time.
Words of Jesus Christ for us all at this time:
“Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest.”

If anyone loves me, they will keep my word,
and my father will love them,
and we shall come to them,
and make our home with them. Jn 14

Peace I bequeath to you, My own peace I give you, a peace the world cannot give,
this is my gift to you. Jn 14
Bishop Ray Browne. 19th March 2020
Feast of St Joseph, Protector of families.

Thought for the day
How we respond to pressure can vary very much from person to person. In John’s Gospel, there are two related stories of people being healed, one in chapter 5 and the other in chapter 9, today’s reading. The man at the pool eventually betrays Jesus. The man born blind resists pressure and even grows on the strength of it. Part of his energy comes from his experience – no matter what others may say about Jesus, he himself once was blind and now he sees!
His courageous attachment to what he knows from his personal encounter with Jesus leads eventually to a full act of faith.
Prayer
Faithful God, you call us to be faithful ever in times of trial. Teach us to embrace the challenge of faith today, that we may have the courage to grow and give courage to others by our witness. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Psalm 91
Whoever goes to the Lord for safety
whoever remains under the protection of
the almighty, can say to him,
“You are my defender and protector.
You are my God, in you I trust”.

He will keep you safe from all hidden dangers and from all deadly diseases.
He will cover you with his wings;
you will be safe in his care; His faithfulness will protect and defend you.

You need not fear any dangers at night
or sudden attacks during the day
at the plagues that strikes in the dark
or the evils that kill in daylight.

A thousand may fall dead beside you,
ten thousand all round you, but you will not be harmed. You will look and see
how the wicked are punished.

You have made the lord your defender,
the most high your protector,
and so no disaster will strike you;
no violence will come near your home.

God will put his angels in charge of you,
to protect you wherever you go.
They will hold you up with their hands to keep you from hurting your feet on the stones. You will trample down lions and snakes, fierce lions and poisonous snakes.
