Hope looks for the good in people,
Hope opens doors where despair closes them,
Hope ‘lights a candle’ instead of ‘cursing the darkness,’
Hope regards problems as opportunities,
Hope pushes ahead when it would be easy to quit,
Hope draws it’s power from a deep trust in God and the basic goodness of human nature.

Statement from Bishop Ray Browne re Sunday Funerals in the Diocese
From Sept 1st 2017 ‘No funerals (Mass, Liturgy or burial) will take place on a Sunday in the parishes of the diocese’. This applies from Saturday mid afternoon. Removals from the church can take place on either Saturday or Sunday evening. This change is necessary for many reasons: related to good Liturgy; related to factors in individual parishes; and related to the availability of priests. Parishes are reminded that there be no exceptions to this diocesan regulation. As regards Holy Days of Obligation the rule will apply to Christmas Day and St Patrick’s Day. On the other Holy Days of Obligation for flexibility reasons the decision is left to the local parish (while still discouraging such funerals for liturgical reasons). I realise many will have reservations about this decision. It has been taken after extensive consultation with laity and clergy throughout the diocese.
Smaoineamh
There is a leaving which is necessary because it is for the good of the one leaving. For example, a person is leaving to return home or leaving to take up abetter job somewhere else. This is certainly true here. Jesus’ leaving for his own good. He is returning to his Father. To return to the Father is to go home. It is to go to honour and glory. Finalyy there is a leaving which is good not only of the one leaving but also of those left behind. Jesus’ leaving is, or will be , good for the apostles too, because he will send them the Spirit. His departure will not leave them unsupported and unguided s they feared. ‘I will not leave you orphans’, he said.
Pray for: Fr. James Downey, Fatima Home, Tralee and late of Castleisland and former Curate in Dingle. Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam.

Are you aware of the NCCA survey on Religious Education in our Primary Schools?
Religious Education will no longer be a subject in the state recognised Primary Schools Curriculum, under the NCCA’s proposal, unless you let your views be known. Is this a move to remove Religious Education from our schools? This move devalues and challenges the place and status of Religious Education in our schools. Is this what you want for the future generations of children? As a matter of urgency parents, teachers, Boards of Management and interested adults need to engage with the survey before closing date 26th May 2017. The NCCA survey is available online: http://www.ncca.ie/en/CurriculumandAssessment/EarlyChildhood_and_Primary_Education/Primary-Education/Primary_Developments/Structure-and-Time-Allocation
