Confirmation Sacrament of growth and belonging. Both Baptism and Confirmation bestow the gifts of the Holy Spirit. All our preparation for Confirmation should help ‘awaken a sense of belonging to the Church’. It should strengthen one’s bond with one’s bishop and with the whole Christian community. (Westminster Diocese)
Catholics and the Holy Spirit
When I think about the Holy Spirit, I think:
of someone I cannot see; of a dove; of tongues of fire;
of wind; of someone who inspires me, a helper and guide in prayer.
“Catholics believe that there are three persons in one God- Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Christ who is seen, the visible image of the invisible God, and the Spirit who reveals him.” (CCC 689)
Next Confirmation weekend programme: Nov. 8th/9th.
NB: Confirmation will take place on Wednesday March 4th, 2015 at 2.00pm in St. Mary’s Church.
Mission Sunday, October 19th
Once a year, on Mission Sunday, the Pope asks us to show our support for missionary work in the younger Churches throughout the world, especially those in greatest need. Let us individually and as a community assist the missions by prayer and financial help so that they may continue their tremendous work of bringing people to Jesus.
All-Ireland Midfielder Anthony Maher
“Missionaries do amazing work – Kerry All Ireland champ.”
All Ireland champion footballer Anthony Maher has appealed to parishes to support the “amazing work” of Irish missionaries on Mission Sunday later this month. “The missionaries do fantastic work across all areas in developing countries, and they are respected and valued by the people whom they serve,” he said.
“They are for the main part feisty and spirited – they really are a breed apart and without them, the lives of the people they serve would be so much bleaker.”
The Kerry champ’s uncle, Fr. Tim Galvin, is a Kiltegan Father based in Sudan since 1983, and he currently works in a parish in the new state of South Sudan. The footballer describes the work of his uncle and all missionaries as “simply amazing”. (The Irish Catholic, October 9th 2014, Part I)
Day for Life Prayer – October 2014
We thank you, Lord, for the gift of life.
Holy Mary, Mother of Love,
holding in your arms
the fruit of your womb,
graciously look upon our earth and remove from it
all that hardens our hearts and dims our eyes
to the preciousness of human life,
from the moment of conception to natural death.

Through the example of your tenderness
teach us the ways of compassion and love
that we may build up the civilization of love among us and a society that is truly worthy of the human person.

Help us to reject all that contributes to a culture of death,
and to work with others of goodwill
in promoting the culture of life.
Bring us ever closer to your Son,
so that we may know the fullness of life that he offers us
and come to know that life more perfectly,
with you, and all the angels and saints,
in the eternal life of Heaven. Amen

Paidir Iubhaile Eaglais Mhuire (1865-2015)
A Dhia na dílseachta, glac uainn ár mbuíochas
as ucht an Fhoirgnimh Dhiaga seo,
siombail d’ár naontas leat,
eadrainn féin, agus le nár bpobal áitiúil.

Gabhaimíd buíochas leo siúd a bhí fadradharcach
is a fhulaing iobairt phearsanta in a thógáil.
Glaonn tú orainn aontú le chéile laistigh dá fhallaí
chun bheith in ár gclann fháilteach, ghrámhar.

Téann an glaoch amach ón eaglais seo
go dteimis go dtí ár gceanntracha stáisiún;
ár nDeoise agus an Domhan
len a mbainimíd go mbeimis mar ghéaga agat
chun do Ríocht ar thalamh a shlánú.

Deonaigh, mar thoradh ar do bhriathra,
go ndéanfar pobal fíor eucairisteach dinn.
Go dtéimíd amach go fonnmhar
chun ceart is cóir a dháileadh.

Bímis in ár maoir ar a bhfuil cruthaithe agat,
ag cosaint ceiliúradh na beatha
i rith na bliana Iubhaile seo,
Dein grá Chríost, do mhac,
a mhúscailt ionainn maille
le lasar ón Spiorad Naomh.
Líon ár mbeatha le misneach chun onóir
a thabhairt do chreideamh ár sínsear;
Go neartófar an creideamh sin ionainn
agus go n-ullamhóimis don todhchaí.
Iarraimíd é seo tré eadarghuí do mhic,
Íosa Críost, ár dTiarna. Amen.
